Just curious how folks here would rank Diesel Engine Manufacturers

Nothing runs like a Deere.... OK has nothing to do with anything other then its catchy! Great info as usual by others.

    Yanmar Fuel Shut off Solenoid

I believe there is a relay, just not sure which one ( a few on the back of the inner cooler), I don't have my manual handy otherwise I'd look it up.

Summit Yachts—a new brand from Kadey-Krogen

Interesting article on the new Kady Krogen, now before we get all political about planing or displacement, it was just meant as general interest. https://www.powerandmotoryacht.com/blogs/freeing-the-summit-54-from-a-container-ship

    Yanmar Fuel Shut off Solenoid

The 6LP has the stop solenoid in the injection pump and it needs 12vdc to run. you can put a meter on the plug and see what is happening. I had that issue, power did drop off on shut off of key yet still ran, sometimes after a few minutes it would shut down and this only happened when the...

    American Tug 395

We need 18' clearance on our boat and no issue with the Erie, we even did the Champlain, as the lock tender told us those numbers published are more of the extreme conditions (heavy rain). Stop in many of the towns, interesting seeing the history and in some cases the transformation.

    Time to Replace Batteries

I'm of the camp if it last 8 years you (previous owner) did very well, then again he may not have really stressed the system like you will be doing. Alot of good information in this forum, just take your time and let it sink in a little, my only advise is to try and keep it simple....

    Sewage in hull of boat

As others have said, I've worked and built house and worked on and restored boats, two different worlds, not to say overly complicated, just another area to learn, just think constant movement/vibration/ whats down hill one day is not the next. Might want to take a pass on this one....

    Conditions around Nantucket

Now now, lets not be a boating snob now, my first trip into New York City I used an atlas, yea I know young and stupid, but man what a great trip!

    Water maker full time?

Water makers are great when out anchored up, not sure for me I would use at the dock, if worried about spotting they have dockside filters for that as well. As with anything systems require maintenance, but I do find systems need to be used to keep working, preserving by not using for some...

    Conditions around Nantucket

Now electronic chart plotters even auto route for you taking into account your draft, although I wouldn't recommend using this function blindly it is an interesting feature, kinda like cars today with lane assist....

    Seasonal transient, SE Florida

Thank you everyone for the very insightful information, I was researching and really coming up dry with possibilities which kinda surprised me, hence why I posted to this well traveled group. I'm thinking where are all these boats going too, do they all have homes/condos to stay at or do they...

    Seasonal transient, SE Florida

Thanks for all the great information BandB, really appreciate it. Air draft 18' Don't want to make it out that I need really cheap, just not one of those high end yacht club types, the wife and I just like getting out walking etc with our Lab's. Having a vehicle also helps as we can drive to...

    Seasonal transient, SE Florida

Thanks BandB, 35' Sportfish, 3.5' draft. Nice clean marina with at least some other boaters staying on their boats (would feel awkward if all owners just store boat in slip), pool nice to have, we would have a vehicle. Would like to be somewhat close to inlet to shoot across to the Bahamas...

    Seasonal transient, SE Florida

I'm stuck in dreary New York and doing some research for next winter season, looking for a marina below Fort Pierce to Fort Lauderdale, this would be seasonal transient, October to May. We don't need nor want to pay for high end resort marina, but also don't want to be in the end of a canal low...

    Swim Platform attachment

Have an issue with outside swim platform brackets, screws pulled free, obviously went to larger size and over time they too are loosing grip. Center platform brackets I can back plate and threw bolt, just the outside I can't get behind it. Some of what I read is to drill out to 1/2" and...

    Dingy or tender.

Sometimes an aged dingy is not worth the hassle either, get the best dingy you can that fits the level of service you need. (Roll up, air deck, rib, steering etc). They all serve a purpose.

Long-term storage for our "dirt" stuff?

A lot of good advise, we are in the process of clearing out out home of 34 years to a more modest condo, really requires a few rounds to get the "stuff" down, I actually sold a bunch and I would post other stuff for free on Craigslist as curb alert, every-time someone came by, nice not sending...

    East Coast transient availability

To take off on twistedtree's post, you would be targeting area's that are more geared for handling larger vessels and there are quite a number of those around. I don't think its that clear cut as far as length cutoffs go, go with the boat that matches your needs most. Also get a really good...
