    ladder or steps suggestions

We have glassed over plywood steps built by the PO, and they work great. They also serve as hatch covers on each side of the cockpit, which allows for bulky items that won't fit all the way under the deck. See the photo. They are heavy, but we don't move them side to side. They have two latches...

A shame to put it back in the water

Eric If you will refrain from comment about size, I'll show you mine. I turned the rudder to avoid your envy.

The SLOT - or watch the doughnut not the hole

Eric said: I hope he appeals to Cary and pulls him back. Eric Marin left me alone with my decision, and I just missed everyone too much to stay gone. Good to see you are back. Did you get that beautiful Willard down here? Carey

    prop to rudde space.

My prop nut is five to six inches in front of the leading edge of my rudder, and I believe this close proximity contributes greatly to the maneuverability.

    Pilothouse Windows

Tint or not That's a tough decision. I say tint if you are in a hot climate. However, I would really want clear for natural colors of the scenery, given that we run from inside 95% of the time. Northwest gales, sleet, and other horrific weather of the NW being what they are.

do you use a prologned signal exiting berth/marina?

Horney As a rule, the only horn signaling I do is a prolonged blast when entering or leaving the breakwater entrance on a real low tide, where my visibility of what's around the corner is limited, and of course other boats view of me is limited. I have used five short blasts to warn another...

August??? That is sad my friend. However, I can't brag of a much better situation. I work part time, with no schedule whatsoever, and only hope for maybe six or eight weekends and a possible 3-4 one week trips. We used to get out ninety nights a year. Between my wife's work commitments and my...

    Squalicum Fire

Yes, Marin and myself are both from Squalicum Harbor in Bellingham, WA. This fire occurred very near Marin's regular moorage. He was however located far from the fire due to construction in the marina involving his dock and the dock adjoined by this boathouse. It appears that we have lost two...

    Color me gone

I just received a PM from a moderator, informing me that my post was in some way offensive to the Forum. I apologize, despite the fact that it was likely taken out of context. I will never know, since the words have been changed to protect the innocent. I shall make this real easy on the...

California recreational (fishing boat) overturns - 4 (all onboard) drown.

The one thing we all need to get out of this sad event is the need to dilligently wear our PFDs when in small / open boats. For that matter, just get used to wearing an inflatable PFD whenever under way in any vessel. You never know when you might need to go out on deck, and maybe forget the...

    Inside Passage Insurance Coverage

We are insured with Ace Recreational Marine Insurance, and are very happy with them. They do limit our cruising area to Puget Sound and its navigable tributaries, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, including a 25 mile radius of Cape Flattery, and inside waters of British Columbia not west of Nitinat...

    Emergency Contact Info on Boat

We have always had contact information in the forward most side windows of the house. They are there 24/7. Both of our names and cell numbers are present. I figure that someone might inform us of a problem, and most importantly, I want to make it easy for someone to make us that impossible to...

    Electric bow thruster batteries?

RE: Elecric bow thruster batteries? My bow thruster was originally tied to an 8D starting battery. Some years later, I switched to a group 31 that still does both. I also have about a 12' run of cable. I really don't know why I would need to change the setup.

    Rubber backed carpet.

I don't have experience with the carpet you are asking about, but we have have rubber backed commercial runners, which you can buy in varying widths and lengths with finished edges, and I wouldn't have anything else. Pick it up, shake it off. Throw it on the dock and hose it off when the dog...
