    Beneteau Swift Trawler 44

I chose the Maxi Orange condensate pumps because they are more powerful than the mini. The bilge water could be condensate water from one of the A/Cs. Shut one down at a time to see if the water stops. I had some cracked drip pans which caused water to appear in my bilge. Or, disconnect the...

The buzzing sound could be in your condensate pump unit or switch. It has been an issue on 2 of my units. Only hear it when things are quiet, but it will drive you crazy! Replace it with Aspen Maxi-Orange pump or the yellow Refco Sahara, which was my original equipment. I like the Aspen better...

I have those same fittings on my Bimini frame, too. No clue why they are there. Luckily, I don’t have any similar problems. I have always used Odorless chemical with every pump out. No sewerage smell, ever. High HP (head pressure) can be from:1) restricted supply duct 2)obstruction in water...

Lady Di was delivered to me with 120’ of 3/8” chain and 125’ of 3/4” nylon line. I had a bridle custom made which has the chain hook transferring the load to the 2 bow cleats.

Lobster Pots in the middle of a channel

Wow, great video of the problem! Something must be done about this or even the lobster boats won’t be able to operate. We have crab traps in Florida but nothing like that.

    Active Captain

I really liked Garmin Blue Chart Mobile, with the Active Captain overlay. I hope that Garmin comes back with a similar product. The best thing about it was we could get crowd-sourced updates on hazards, marinas and local knowledge. We heavily relied on this info during our AICW trip a few years...

Lobster Pots in the middle of a channel

Great question! I’m sure any regulations would be from local jurisdictions. I deal with many crab traps/markers and often wonder the same thing! I especially hate the markers painted black or dark green! In my opinion, these things may be the greatest hazard to navigation.

    Keeping A Log

Fuel log: x percent remaining at trip start vs. x percent remaining at trip end. Could convert to gallons if desired.

    Keeping A Log

I keep a manual log book. After every cruise I log the date, hours, fuel, oil level (out and return figures). I also note crew, destination, anything noteworthy, like, RPM's, turbo pressure, & speed at WOT. In this log I also notes fueling and maintenance details, highlighting the fuel notes in...

    Rudder Seals on ST44

OK, checked about these replacement rudder seals from my Beneteau dealer in Ft. Myers, FL. Information back indicates Beneteau has 2 replacement options: 1) Standard seals are $71.01 per rudder tube, which is currently on my boat. 2) They do offer a reinforced system. Retails for $1,344.37...

    Rudder Seals on ST44

I’m going to replace mine in the fall during my haul for new bottom paint in Naples, FL. Any tips on this? There also seems to be a small leak where the starboard trimtab bolts through the transom. Can any good mechanic install these new seals? Should I buy them myself or leave it to the...

Propane vapors are heavier than air which is why the drain/vent is on the bottom of the locker. No need for an upper vent.

There is a proper vent on the floor of the propane locker. I’m sure that Beneteau didn’t eliminate it as it’s vital. Check it out.

    Fuel line between tanks

I’ve kept the crossover valves open but the gauges never show equalization. I chalk it up to a malfunctioning gauge on my starboard tank. I recently decided to close the crossover because I see no benefit in keeping it open.

My calibrations have always been incorrect, even after I went through recalibration steps when full. Always show discrepancies but if I go with the lowest reading, usually the port tank, it’s pretty accurate. People tell me boat gauges are always screwy. Hard to understand in this age of...

No, I had fuel back wash once when fueling at a “high volume” diesel pump. It was actually at Harbortown, Hilton Head, SC. Before I could react I had what seemed like a major geyser of diesel fuel erupting from my fuel fill. I’m more careful now and listen closely as it fills. I guess the...

Where is the vent line from the lowers sinks & showers? I do have to be careful of high volume fuel pumps. Had a geyser early on. Any info is always appreciated. Thanks

Beneteau ST 44 potential sea water intrusion

The difference between the waterline and the low spillover point on the exhaust near the engine measures about 18”. This seems to be a good design unless I’m missing something.
