Beneteau ST 44 potential sea water intrusion

I'm still due the $1,200 salvage value from the cores. Volvo policy is that even parts replaced under warranty, in my case the new "bobtail" engines, do not come with a new warranty. They only carry the original warranty period, if any remains. I know, sounds crappy but that's their policy...

Beneteau ST 44 potential sea water intrusion

Sorry that I’m late to reply to this thread. FYI, Yes, Volvo did replace both of my engines, at 400 hours, for excessive oil consumption. The new engines came complete with new turbos. Both of These new turbos seized up, at exactly the same time, with only 60 hours on them, an impossible...

I had my Bimini replaced with Sunbrella for around $1,000. I try to Keep it out of Sun whenever possible.

    Collision! What if?

Question: if not a dire situation, ( no flooding, injuries, etc) 1) should we try to exchange info over the VHF? My guess is that cell phone may be best if possible. 2) Should local authorities be hailed on 16? 3) I’d get a visual on his registration if I could I probably wouldn’t want to raft...

Yes, I was informally using the term "Captain"...

    New Search Light

I just heard from a delivery captain that he liked the "auto-sweep" feature on a recent night voyage. He said it really helped to see the wave action. May be worth considering.

    Collision! What if?

Right, 5 blasts for danger, but I was referring to 3 blasts when suddenly stopping boat, as I'd be giving stern propulsion. Gotta paint that switch orange or red so I can hit it fast!

    Beneteau Swift Trawler 44

Good to hear! We almost named our vessel "Chicken of the Sea"! A line that I believe originated in an I Love Lucy episode.

    Collision! What if?

OK, another vessel (40' Searay(?)) missed hitting me by less than 2' last week. I was really shook up but relieved he missed me. Close calls are great learning experiences and I've given a lot of thought on avoiding similar situations. Here's what happened: In an urban no-wake zone, Naples...

    Beneteau Swift Trawler 44

My lower refrigerator, Vitrifrigo, works fine. I never measured the freezer temperature but it keeps ice fine. I can see how both friges might drain the house batteries if you're not running or on shore or generator power, but I rarely am not I stow my cushions in the small stateroom and never...

    Beneteau Swift Trawler 44

I had a problem with my trim tabs. I think 1 side went dead. I contacted Lenco and they quickly sent me a new control module. under warranty. My lower sinks both drain very slowly. Yes, it seems like an air lock situation, which I’m just living with as it’s not a big deal for me.

    ICW- Your Best Tips

Irma changes: I’d check Waterway Guide and Active Captain, along with verbal requests for local knowledge. A new thread on TF will get you some good insights, I’m sure! Wow, great speeds for inside passage. I guess you didn’t slow down for anything!

    ICW- Your Best Tips

If you laid down a track you can get the actual miles traveled. Also, on the AICW, there are chart circle marks every 5 statute miles, but I'm not sure that these are applicable to your route. What % of the trip was in open gulf waters? Thanks.

    ICW- Your Best Tips

Great job! Some trip data would be helpful if you get a moment. You know, like hours/day, miles traveled, fuel consumption, etc...

    Beneteau Swift Trawler 44

I believe that mine were replaced with standard auto blades but I'll check my records. BTW, I think that Rain-X would be great for boat windshields, but regular reapplication would likely be required.

    Swift 44 fire YIKES

Well, if the fire was due to unsafe behavior by someone on board I would think that Beneteau would want that news out there to quell any critics. On the other hand, if it was some problem within the boat I'm sure that it will be a "long investigation". It worries me that there has been NO NEWS...

    ICW- Your Best Tips

10 days, 1,500 miles would be way too ambitious for me. I'd probably (at least) double the time allowance.

    Plexiglass in ST44 Engine Room

It's cracked. Mine was a whole piece before it cracked, just like yours. A mechanic must have backed into it, or something like that.

Inside Helm: Needed or Not? & Entry Door Beside Inside Helm:. Needed or Not?

Lower helm was a must-have, love it when we can’t be on the fly bridge. Lower helm door is the way to go. Good ventilation and helps greatly with visibility as I can step out to see, when necessary. My vision isn’t getting any better and the interior reflections don’t help. There is even a large...

    Swift 44 fire YIKES

I'm told that this vessel sunk. My guess is that it was electrical. If the Key West boat out of Ft. Meyers got there at 10:00 AM I guessing that this happened somewhere off of Naples, FL.

    Swift 44 fire YIKES

There are 2 fixed fire extinguishers in the engine room, which are designed to trigger automatically or with manual pull-cables. When we bought our ST 44, new in 2012, I found that the pins had not been removed from the extinguishers, so I removed them. I'm unsure if these pins would keep them...
