    ICW- Your Best Tips

Alligator River Marina Perhaps it's new or you're speaking of the rest room in the store, but there is a separate and newly (?) renovated building that houses about 4 large individual showers with toilets. The laundry is also in this building. I'd give the showers an 8 or 9 rating!

Oh, Portsmouth to Alligator River: 84 statute miles. The clips are coated with plastic but I try to stow them when not running.

    ICW- Your Best Tips

Portsmouth to Alligator River Saturday, 13 September. Day 2. Didn't realize no wake zone "till the high-rise bridge", wherever THAT was. Figured it out when we got to it! Good lesson for me and my navigating wife. Great weather until 90% across Albemarle sound. Saw a t-storm ahead and moving...

    ICW- Your Best Tips

Friday, 12 September: Annapolis to Portsmouth. 150 statute miles. Long day but had 3-4 foot following sea. We'd climb the waves and coast down the fronts. Bow never came close to burying (I think) and big spray was cast well to the sides. It was a bit scary until we realized that she was...

    Lehr 9.9 won't plane

Yes, the dealer recommended the long shaft and the fin.

    Lehr 9.9 won't plane

It has a "Hydro-Shield" fin, mounted horizontally below the prop. The dinghy weighs only 100 lbs., before battery and 11 lb. propane tank. The engine weighs about 100, too. I'll guess 250 lbs. before passengers. Thanks for the input.

    ICW- Your Best Tips

We made it! Took us 14 days running. We had a bit of a deadline. I know, bad thing! Great experience for wife and me. Met some wonderful folks. Trip back in 2015 will be way slower, complete with rose smelling. New motto: "we don't have a schedule and we're sticking to it!" Thank you for...

    Lehr 9.9 won't plane

Got a new Lehr 9.9, long shaft, with a new AB 9' aluminum hull RIB. Planes fine with just me but won't with 2nd passenger. Dealer has been notified. Thinking about a different prop and a few other adjustments to the engine, like a slight tilt (bringing prop up slightly) or perhaps putting a...

Removing Diesel Oil from Teak Deck

Yesterday I learned how a high volume diesel fuel pump can cause an airlock, resulting in a rather large quantity of fuel onto my Teak deck. I know, I should have soaked the deck with water before fueling.. Didn´t , so what now? Also, should the attendant have told me it was a high volume pump...

    ICW- Your Best Tips

Heading our tomorrow, Sept. 12. We are very excited about our journey to SW Florida. Thank you for all of your best advice. Maybe we'll have the privilege of seeing some of you along the way. Looks like our AIS is not transmitting- a bit disappointment. This Raymarine equipment seems to be a bit...

    Chesapeake Bay Cruisin

Help me out, what do you mean by "dead heads"? We're heading from Annapolis to Gulf of Mexico on Saturday, via ICW and OWW, and we're going to try and not hit ANYTHING. Too optimistic? We're new at this. BTW, call Ralph or Dusty at Annapolis Landing Marina on Back Creek, Annapolis area...maybe...

SF to LA in our Beneteau Swift Trawler 44

The idea of turning the 2nd stateroom into a large storage / laundry is a good one. That room is a bit small. When we had guests overnight they slept in the saloon for several reasons. The only other place would be in the lazarette but that wouldn't be convenient access.

    It’s Showtime

Richard, This is a lot for me as a novice to digest and understand, so, Just to clarify, if one's destination is NE but there is strong wind directly from the from NE, what would be your approximate heading for best safety and comfort, assuming, depth, fuel and time were not issues? I expect...

SF to LA in our Beneteau Swift Trawler 44

Lost Horizons, Though we haven't taken long voyages on Lady Di, and none out of Chesapeake Bay, we have logged about 150 hours and are setting out to SW Florida in 2 weeks. The 1 nm/ gal is a good average. I'd like to answer any questions I can so either email me at rclarke246@aol.com or call me...

    It’s Showtime

Novice here. Tell me, what does the term "pooped" mean in this nautical context? Though I've never been in anything like Richard is experiencing, I'm pretty sure that under these conditions he CANNOT afford a beam sea even for an instant. Right??

    Raymarine AIS in Silent Mode

I have Raymarine AIS model 500, class B. Can see all AIS targets but it won't take the command to turn off the silent mode. Also have E120W and E90W MFD's. Thanks.
