    Fastener organization ideas???

Just a warning on the Dewalt. They make more than one size, I found that out the hard way. I have two that lock together (Home Depot), one that is close (local fastener supply house) and one that is way off.(Amazon)

    Fastener organization ideas???

I use the Dewalt stackable units. I buy most of my hardware from Jamestown Dist. you get 100 in a box so I can fit more of an assortment.

    Hudson River to Lake Champlain

Sorry that I feel a need to ask these questions, I have 60 years of experience on my local bays and rivers. This is my first trip where I am out of my home waters. I need to plan ahead, For example I did not know there are no anchorages in the canal. Now I know to book some marinas. I have...

    Hudson River to Lake Champlain

Back in blue, I am starting to plan a Loop side trip up the Chaplin canal to visit my daughter in Burlington. Can you give me an idea of how much time is needed to get there and back from the Erie Canal. Do yo recommend and dog friendly anchorages? Because she works I need to be there when she...

    Repairing Teak Veneer for re-cover...

I had quite a bit of delamination and rot from leaking windows. What I did is replace the rotted wood and filled low spots. I then sanded, primed and painted the port and starboard walls with flattened Hatteras off white. It looks great and brightened up the salon and wheelhouse.

    Trip planning LI sound

Here is why I am going alone. After 40 plus years of marriage, it is long past time for me to go. For a number of reasons, she will stay in our house and I will happily travel alone with my dog. We made far better parents that we ever did a couple. Over the past several years I awakened and...

Any benefit to adding ER ventilation fan?

I have both an engine room exhaust fan and one in the lazerette for the Genset. They do a good job of cooling the areas down. The intake for the engine room is 18 x 12. I also forget to turn it on at times.

NEWB question - Water pressure all the time?

I would never leave my boat with public waters unlimited supply hooked up and turned on. Now if the boats pump is left on the worst case is you would empty the tank. On my boat I disconnected and plugged the city water supply fitting to insure no mistakes happen.

    Fuel Cost Changing Cruising Plans?

I have full tanks (300 gal) and burn 2 gph @ 7 knots. I have been planning to Loop this year for a long time and will suck it up and pay what I have to. I will anchor more to offset the costs. I am a positive thinker so there is a chance prices could come back down. As far as prices go I filled...

    Every Day Is Like Christmas!!

I also had lots of mystery parts, papers, used and useless stuff. A big plus is the spare prop. After my refit I was able to toss a lot of crap I was unsure of. Now I am trying to decide what new stuff to replace it with. I have questions like how many different size screws, bolts, nuts and...

    Bareboat with my son?

I brought my sons on as partners several years ago. Now I have serious business partners and no longer have my sons. I retire soon and hope that I get my sons back and they come on parts of the Loop with me.

A special warning to lurkers and non-boat owners...

I am 65 and have 1-1/2 months to go until I retire, then June 1st off I go solo with my dog on the Loop. I have a business I am selling to my sons. My income will drop in half but I know it is time for me to go. When your sons are partners in your business you loose them as your children. One...

    Thoughts on the Mainship 350/390?

I was looking for a Loop boat and had looked at one 350 and three 390's. All but one were low hours with very worn interiors telling me they almost never left the marina. The last one was a 390 which looked very nice. The survey showed hidden hull damage amidships from going against a wall in a...

    Thoughts on the Mainship 350/390?

There was a fix for the swim platform water intrusion which I believe included a bilge pump. I had an offer on one a few years back. It failed the survey for a number of reasons. The 2 negatives I found were with all the e glass up it blew around like a kite even in light air. I also found the...

Sizing Automatic FireBoy for our Engine Room

I went one size up, one in the engine room one in the lazerette for the genset, both hooked to an automatic shut down system. Then I added 4 hand held in different locations around the boat. No such thing as to many. My wives car caught fire in our garage a few years ago, we had enough now I...
