    Thoughts on MFDs and Radar?

I went with Garmin, I found it easy to understand and use. I have never used Furuno so I have no input on that.

    DIY Hull roll and tipping

I just did my hull and wheelhouse with Epiphanes monothane which is a one part. I put it over a two part with just a light sanding. I rolled it with a 4" roller and I am happy with the results.

    starboard door for solo boater

I have a Sundowner 32 which has port and starboard doors. I just finished the great loop solo, it was easy for me to both dock and lock. I always docked bow in. The boat has a single engine with only a stern thruster.

    2023 Great Loop stats

I did it solo last year. I am retired and it was a bucket list trip. 6200 miles 345 days and I would do it again in a heart beat.

    Is Defender is loosing it?

Jamestown Distributors closed their retail store a few years ago. Now you can only get things shipped. They were my go to store of choice for 30 years. Defender became my new store having a great selection although I had to have everything shipped. Once they sold they went downhill and I quit...

    Drive Saver shaft coupling questions

The first time I noticed a vibration that got bad very fast. That time it sheared the bolts. The mechanic only replaced the bolts and reused the drive saver. The second time it was destroyed and had to be replaced. The last repair was done correctly and has been problem free ever since.

    Drive Saver shaft coupling questions

I have one on my boat and it failed going down the Illinois River. Had to get towed to Peoria where it was "repaired" Made it to Tarpon Springs just after crossing the Gulf when it failed again. Turns out I had broken engine mounts which should have been found by the mechanic in Peoria.

    New to solar

Great info thanks. Should each panel have a controller? My roof will fit two with ease. Thanks

    New to solar

Sorry I haven't gotten back. The storm was fairly intense today with a loss of power and internet. I have a flat roof with 6' x 6' for panels. I would make mounts and attach using thickso on G10 plates. It looks straight forward as to the wiring which was my main concern.

    New to solar

I have searched the forum without finding what I need to know. I want to add solar to my boat what do I need to know as far as hook up and monitoring. I have a 6' x 6' roof top area which should be more than I need. I talked to a guy from Marine Solar and he said just install and hook up to...

    Keeping seagulls off bimini

I have strung used signal flags from the bow to the stern for a few years now. It has worked well so far. I always look for replacements when in consignment stores as the do get tattered.

    Bow or Stern Thruster

I bought my boat with no thrusters. I can put the bow anywhere I want so I had a stern thruster installed before I left to do the loop solo. Best money I spent. Not only does it give me steerage when backing it also allows me fine steering adjustments in forward. I center the wheel then use it...

Lock Prop While Being Towed ?

I keep Pipe clamp vice grips on the boat and lock the shaft with them. Granted the only time I needed them was when the bolts sheared at my marine gear. I think it is best not to have a spinning shaft.

Thinking of down sizing to a Sundowner 30

I have a Sundowner 32 and just completed the Great Loop solo. The extra room the 32 gives matters. They are solid and well thought out.

    My boat smells like celery?

So far all suggestions have not been the source. I think maybe the chain in the locker is a possibility. After airing out the salon for several days I noticed the smell was stronger in the vee berth, by the time I opened the chain locker my sense of smell was failing me. I will check again once...

    My boat smells like celery?

I am docked at my friends dock. We live in a nice neighborhood with no business near by. The smell appeared within a few hours of my docking. I had the doors closed and nobody went onboard it is very odd. At this point I think my boat misses me and wants to continue cruising. I know after a year...

    My boat smells like celery?

The thing is nothing new was brought on the boat for weeks as I travelled up the east coast. Nobody got on the boat once I arrived. Very strange indeed. Today my wife and I are going out for the afternoon hoping to meet up with my son and his wife for early dinner. I will have them come on and...
