    Air Cooler Maintenance

Or intercooler. There is a lot of talk on Boatdiesel regarding the cleaning and inspecting of air coolers. In 12 years of mostly fresh water use I have never done it, turbo charged Yanmar 4lha-ste's. Are you guys doing this? If you can get the core out how* do you clean it? Air side and...

    Inverter Tips

The microwave clock does not keep accurate time when powered off the inverter, must not be right on 60 cps. Also, gfi outlets hum, loudly. Xantrex 1800 watt. Other then the above works fine.

Twin engines easier around the dock in a blow?

Do you guys with twins ever put the helm hard over away from the wind so the downwind engine in forward will kick the stern into the wind? I have tried this, doesn't do much with my boat. Rudders probably to small.

Twin engines easier around the dock in a blow?

"a finger float on one side and another boat or slip on the other" Try when the boat next door is a 2 million sportfish who's flaired sides are right at bowrail height. And the finger pier is only 20' long so no bow in. Then add 20 knots blowing blowing across the bow. Single handed. I went to...

    Engine Warning Buzzer

Tim: The transmission(zf630) sender is on the top, next to the neutral safety sensor. The overheat sender is a switch, closes at some oil temp showing an overheat. It was set up from the factory to sound the buzzer, same buzzer as the low engine oil pressure and high water temp. If the Tach is...

    Engine Warning Buzzer

Rick- Thanks again for the revised idea. Good schematic drawings. Yanmar motors, tach sender looks at flywheel. FlyWright- With that name you must be in the airplane world. "It gives you something harmless to push while you try to figure out what the heck is going wrong." I use to fly with one...

    Engine Warning Buzzer

One of my retirement projects has been upgrade the engine warning systems. Not only as a good thing to have but also I like doing this stuff. Individual warning lights and common buzzer for the following: 1. Low oil psi 2. High coolent temp 3. High Tranny oil temp 4. Hi Exhaust Temp 5...

    Engine Warning Buzzer

RickB: Thanks for the idea, I will check it out. Oldstone: Agreed, we need the buzzer to attract our attention to the problem. Once it has our attention the sound is not needed and is an annoying distraction, the light stays on as long as there is a problem. I may want to or need to keep the...

    Engine Warning Buzzer

Does anyone know of a buzzer that will cancel itself after several seconds of noise making? A warning(low oil psi, high coolent temp. etc) will continue until DC power is removed or the condition resolves itself. I may want to keep DC power on to watch the situation, but now must listen to the...

Erie Canal shut down for quite a while

I just came down the Champlain canal. The lock guys said they would be very suprised if the Erie opened at all before next summer. Only a few boats, mostly Canadian sailors, on the Champlain Canal.

I am the origional poster of this thread. Thanks all for the input. NY Canals Closed

Is this screwing up anyone's plans to head south for the winter? I'm on Lake Champlain, hoping the Champlain Canal will open by Columbus Day when we start for St Augustine. High water should go down by then. The Erie sounds like there was damage done during Irene's flood. Rumor only has it the...

    House Battery Bank Switch

I am installing a new battery bank(8 group 31 AGMs) and would like to have a shutoff switch if there is a electrical problem. The bank is fused but I want the positive control of a switch. A conventional switch would involve runs of heavy cable and the voltage loss. I am considering a heavy...

Running single on a twin to save fuel

I have been trying single engine runs on long offshore passages where there would be no need for maneuvering. The best way I could find to secure the unused shaft was to put a wrench on one of the coupling bolt heads, and have the wrench lie in a nearby stringer. The autopilot would deflect...
