    Replacing faucets on old boat

Tony, are you suggesting a short flex service line attached to the faucet, followed by the shark or gator-bite which is attached to the 3/8 supply line?

    Replacing faucets on old boat

Marin, the photo shows the connection before we cut off the grey connector. Then we installed the gator-bite adaptor. We found the leak was at the brass to brass connection. There is very little wiggle room under the counter in our heads so I got the honors. I applied the tape to the faucet...

    Replacing faucets on old boat

Yes, the gator-bite fitting was connected directly to the faucet and it leaked (very slowly but still leaked). I like the idea of using steel flex connection lines. Did you use them for a particular reason rather than install the fixture directly to the poly line?

Who is going North or South on the ICW this year??

Thanks Bess for the info on the Joyner Mariner. It is definitely a possibility.

    Replacing faucets on old boat

Tony, attached is our dry run with the polybutylene fitting attached to the stem of the new faucet.* This leaked.* Then we cut off the end of the polybutylene hose and compression fitting.* We attached the gator-bite to the faucet set (brass to brass with teflon) and then inserted the...

    SR Mariner Speed Indicator

I contacted the SRMariner company online and they were very helpful with detailed instructions on troubleshooting (checking ohms) and lubricating the unit. We took it apart, lubricated it with a graphite spray similiar to that used for fishing reels, painted the housing and rod with rustoleum...

Who is going North or South on the ICW this year??

We will be starting the great loop from Naples, FL sometime between the end of March to mid May.* Our son announced he is getting married in Toronto on May 7th so we are still trying to figure it out.* Ideally we will get going before then and dock our boat along the way and fly up for the wedding.

Are faucets for boats marine versions?

Well, our heads were under the sink again as we installed the gator-bites. They still leaked not where the bite is but between the brass fittings of the faucet and the gator-bite adaptor. I can't tell you how frustrating it is. We put on some teflon tape but the two brass parts did not seem...

Horseshoe or pivot davits for inflatable?

We are still trying to figure out whether to stay with the 10 year old 9.6' Achilles with air floor, or to go with another type of dinghy (porta-bote) If we stay with the Achilles we will have a few minor repairs.* The real issue is that we don't want to invest a lot in a davit system for a...

Are faucets for boats marine versions?

We are in the process of replacing the galley and the two head faucets on our boat. We elected to go with Moen products. Consider a spout that swivels for the heads - costs a bit more but will be a lot more user friendly. One word of caution is to carefully look at the supply lines and make...

    Replacing faucets on old boat

Another afternoon with our heads under the counters. Lines are still leaking. So we made the rounds of stores for help. As our supply lines are made from polybutylene, the compression fittings are not available at the local hardware stores or plumbing supply stores or marine supply stores...

    Replacing faucets on old boat

Of course, what was I thinking - the supply line would be connected to the fresh water pump. Cutting off the end of the supply line is not a problem. Our galley supply lines have a rubber gasket over which the nut tightens. The head faucets do not. Perhaps that is also factoring in. Our...

    Replacing faucets on old boat

We are in the process of replacing the galley and head faucets on our 1986 Monk.* The galley refit doesn't leak but it took teflon tape and another go at tighening it up before it was completely dry.* Today we could not get the faucet in our stateroom head to quit leaking.* One issue might...

    Porta Bote

The Weaver Davit folks just confirmed that their system will not work with Porta-Botes. Here is their response: ...sorry the PortaBote will not work with our system due to the dinghy will fold up when its on it side and the material that it is made out of when drilling thought it the dinghy...

    Porta Bote

We think the Porta-Bote is a practical boat, both for use as a dinghy and also for using as a small fishing boat for my husband as we travel the Great Loop. We have a dog and need to make shore visits so we are not inclined to disassemble it each time we bring it back to the boat. Any thoughts...

    Porta Bote

We are considering the porta-bote to be used as dinghy. We would prefer to keep it assembled and tipped on the swim deck. In measuring our swim deck we can handle a 10 ft. Is there any easy davit system or method to tip it up without damaging the wooden swim deck? Likewise we have wood toe...

    SR Mariner Speed Indicator

Our new to us 1986 Monk36 has a wind speed indicator. We're not sure how accurate it is.* The part that is on the mast is rusty (photo attached).* The speed indicator gauge located in the cabin has the name SR Mariner on it.* We do not have another source for wind speed except the weather...

    Exterior trim

Tony, what was the final outcome with the trim pieces on the flybridge. The trim on our flybridge never seems to get dry enough for us to refinish with cetol. We might remove it and see what is behind and underneath.

Getting back the shine on gelcoat

I've read the detailed information. Our boat has a lot of teak. I can't see being able to cover it up during the compound and polishing phase using the buffer. Is rinsing the teak with fresh water enough to protect it from effects of the sling of the compound and polish? The tiny areas that...

Getting back the shine on gelcoat

The white gelcoat on our 1986 Monk36 is dull.* We would like to try and bring the shine back.* Spray wax does not do the trick.* From our research, it seems we need to use rubbing compound, polish, and then wax.* Before we lay out $100 for the material, has anyone had any success stories with...

Achilles LSI 96 with air floor - davit suggestion?

JD Our inflatable is 9 1/2 ft. It move fine but we will only be using it to move from boat to shore for the most part and are not interested in speed. The dingy is rated for a motor between 4-8 HP so we are in the right range.
