An idiot's guide to building a big lithium bank

Will be really interested to see how this plays out for you Simi. I entertained the idea but just don't have the time to go full DIY. I purchased a 400AH 12v unit locally and am still getting used to it. Takes a while to get your head around things after spending your life watching battery...

An idiot's guide to building a big lithium bank

Great thread and one that I'll re-read in more depth when time permits. I've been lusting after a lithium upgrade for some time but admittedly, don't have the confidence or discretionary time to do the necessary research to go DIY. Love the vessel also and would love to do a refit of something...

    Onan MDKBH 4KW - intermittently won´t crank

UPDATE Ok - spent a long weekend on the boat running the genset in the usual manner which is generally shorts stints morning and afternoon. No signs of the above mentioned issue re-emerging so far. The genset started and ran perfectly on each occasion. I don't want to call it resolved just yet...

    Onan MDKBH 4KW - intermittently won´t crank

UPDATE Spent a few hours today removing the sound shield, cleaning and checking all connections for appropriate tightness and connectivity. Replaced K3 and K4 relays. Whilst everything was open I also swapped out the impeller which was close to due. Replaced some of the tired heat shielding and...

    Onan MDKBH 4KW - intermittently won´t crank

Thanks gkesden, I hope you are right considering the usual cost of repairs in the marine world. I wish I could do it right now but I'm stuck in the office. Damn work get's in the way of everything. I will definitely report back as I go. Ryan

    Onan MDKBH 4KW - intermittently won´t crank

Thanks gkesden, coincidently I just got off the phone to my local Onan supplier and we discussed the K4 relay as a 1st option. I can source it for around $30 and he has stock so I it seems like an obvious starting point to at least eliminate that as a causal factor. The issue with the solenoid...

    Onan MDKBH 4KW - intermittently won´t crank

Thanks for the assistance gents. This is exactly what i was hoping for and provides more some really useful lines of inquiry to progress. suggestions, I will definitely work through them as it's not a bad thing to ensure all contacts are clean and dry in any event. wpc691 - thanks for the...

    Onan MDKBH 4KW - intermittently won´t crank

Also posted over at boatdiesel; This is a really strange one. My genset will run fine until I shut down but seemingly randomly, when I go to start later in the day it will prime but not crank. Sometimes after a few attempts it will suddenly crank, start and run as normal. I´ve done all sorts of...

    Tragic day for "Anabelle"

Such a tragic scene. I also saw it on the FB group and the mind immediately swings to the 'How' questions. I note those involved are physically safe and well which is the most important thing but I can't even imagine what they are going through now. Ryan

On the hard for two weeks

Seems to always play out like that. No matter how much planning is undertaken, something always throws things out resulting in the mad dash at in the last few hours. Condolences on the passing of your mother-in-law. Hope everything works out for you tomorrow.

Water run off the top deck? Looking for ideas.

Love that idea Rebel112r. Might have to look into something similar myself. The regular summer afternoon storms here provide heaps of water catching opportunities and seeing all that water running off the roof seems such a waste. Provides more incentive to ensuring the roof is squeaky clean too :-)

    Pressure washer and compressor

Simi - I got the little compressor from Bunnings and the cheap regulators you linked from ebay. I already had some hosing and various air fittings so it was a simple process. After testing last weekend I purchased a weight belt and tried again the weekend just gone. Brilliant!!! I was able to...

    Underwater lights

I've got 2 blue Aqualuma UW lights on my boat. They were one of the first things I installed after purchase. Had them on the previous boat also and I love them. The marine life they attract is absolutely amazing. Spent many hours with the kids with a fishing net catching squid off the duckboard...

Thanks gents. I've looked at dedicated hookah systems but I'll be honest, never really considered the option of building my own.... Until now..... You've have now set me on that path and in the process, saved me a few $. Rhino

    Pressure washer and compressor

How would you go about constructing a hookah system from one of these Simi? I'd love a hookah but they are not cheap. Be happy to build on though if it could be done at a more reasonable price. Rhino

    Navionics acquired by Garmin

Very good and valid question BandB. I'd like to think these decisions are motivated by the greater good of the customer but reality has me tending to lean on the cynical side.

    Obsessive About Battery Banks (SOC)

I recently installed the Color Control GX from Victron which interconnects with my solar controller, battery monitor/s and inverter/charger. I've got it connected to the internet via a small router and now I can see full system status and history from anywhere in the world via the website portal...

    Engine Hours

For us about 250 to 300 per year. The majority is just short local trips on weekends due to work commitments. Hoping to eventually break out and do some longer coastal trips when we can extract ourselves from work for an extended period. Rhino
