Electric Boat Engines

The propeller factor Decoupling the engine speed and power output from the propeller also gives you the opportunity to substantially improve propeller efficiency. It is not unusual for conventional direct-diesel propulsion systems to waste 50% of their power through the propeller. This...

Hi, yes, going strong OK...lots of comments, that's what's all about. Let me rewind a bit if I may. Lets read this passage again: Let's say that you would normally use two 150 hp Yanmar engines and a 16kw Fischer-Panda generator. If you replaced this with a single 150kw OSSA Powerlite...

Well...when I was 16 I did an apprenticeship in blacksmithing yet that was ...hum...40 years ago. In the US you have one of the strongest blacksmith groups in the world, have look at this link: http://www.anvilfire.com/ I wish we had anything close to that here in Australia. A couple of email...

    Going green

At 14V cont the battery will require frequent watering or Hydro Caps. I thought more on the line of giving the heater a feed of 14V drawing from the batteries from whatever is available probably 12v or less. From what I read, the truck heaters run on 14V or therabouts and dont take...

All you need is a transformer to keep voltage output up to 14V, providing you have enough battery capacity.

    Diesel Fuel Blend

Ed, there is a very simple way to find out. Get a fuel pump diaphragm, and some of the suspect product and leave it to marinate for a week or a month and see what happens. * -- Edited by Marc1 at 21:49, 2008-03-21

    Electric Boat Engines

Hum...someone is confusing the topic or confusing me. Diesel electric propulsion for a boat means that in stead to have a gearbox attach to the shaft, you have a generator attached to the main engine and an electric motor turning the shaft. There is no talk of batteries of any sort. The part I...

    Diesel Fuel Blend

I have used the following mixture for my Toyota 4Runner diesel for the last 50,000km Mix 600cc of pure acetone with 400cc of synthetic 2stroke oil to make one litre of additive. Add 100cc of the mix to every 40 litres of fuel. Sorry about the metric units, you can use a convertor here

    Diesel Fuel Blend

I don't know if people are still reading this thread, but I'll give it a go. There are basically a few different types of waste oil that could be used as fuel extender. Used sump oil Waste cooking oil Used transmission oil. Hydraulic fluid and A/T fluid I would forget the last two because of...

    Going green

Considering that "green" besides being the color of grass in spring is the most abused political force and the biggest excuse for sacrificing personal freedoms for the "common good" I must admit I am tempted to agree with you. However there is a good side to what is intended by "green", despite...

Thank you guys for all your answers, I'll keep on asking questions as they come if you don't mind. Just to get my head around the concept of long passages, ( I do know I must do some sort of course) Say I want to go to NZ or Lord How, at 7 or 8 knots it will take the best part of a week, so...

    Getting started

Hi there! New to the forum, would like to ask some beginners questions. I've been interested in the motor-sailer concept, particularly the Diesel Duck For a while. I've owned a number of smaller pleasure and cargo boats for many years yet have never ventured at sea, always sailed the...

    You Tube Post

You can edit your video with windows but it is like running a race with gumboots on. There are very good software for this purpose yet they are not cheap. Since you will most likely upgrade to a full digital video camera soon enough, such expense may not be warranted. I would go to a gig's shop...
