Replacing generator; how difficult is this?

when the hatch is open on my boat, there is a nice big access into the ERbut not a lot of places to brace anything against *Per I think your engine room is just like mine? *You have a 38' Cali right? *Generator mounted across the stringers, just ahead of the main engines? *The yard lifted mine...

Replacing generator; how difficult is this?

*I did a generator replacement on my previous boat. I put in a Northern Lights 4.5 kw to replace an old Kohler/Lister-Petter pos. I did a new exhaust hose and added a water lift muffler, and that was basically about it. Just connected the AC wiring to the new set, Ran the panel harness to the...

Replacing generator; how difficult is this?

sooner or later i am replacing my generator and just getting some ideas to what complications may stem from that.. there is the physical part.. getting the old unit out and the new in. i have a decent size ER, where the unit can be dropped down on a roller platform. other than that is there...

Thankful, and lucky to be here today.

*shortly after i got my boat, we took friends for a sunset cruise into Huntington Beach. the route into the marina via an inlet or canal passing a weapons depot (just for drama has nothing to do with this story), then under a bridge and here lies the issue; height of the bridge became an issue...

Thankful, and lucky to be here today.

good to hear you were able to get out of harms way. they always say you only need a puddle of water to drown in it. my wife drowned as a baby, somehow she feel in a pool but luckily was found right away (on the bottom) but was fished out and survived. She too is not 100% buddies with water or...

Removal of swimstep in the water

not a bad idea MP! yes it is for measuring LOA for slip assignment, turns out i am 2 ft and a few inches too long for a 35' slip. i am considering to saw off some of my pulpit instead, would need also to redo the stainless rail over the pulpit.

    towing

just a follow up to this thread.. we towed our 11' RIB recently on the way out we used a 350# floating line as a bridle with the outport in the down position. the line broke at seas, i was able to re-trieve the RIB and re-tie it using two docklines tied together. on the way home, i raised the...

    House Battery Bank Switch

it sounds like the logic is similar when a charge current is present on either bank however the bluesea switch combines both banks as long as the volt on either bank is > 12.75 volt. i actually think this is a good feature and would have preferred it kept the "combining" down to perhaps 12.3...

    House Battery Bank Switch

*FW, are you referring to the bluesea combiner switch? in that case it is not fool proof. this switch isolates one bank if the voltage on either bank drops below 12.75 Volt and if you have been away for a few days or longer it doesnt take much to drop under 12.75 volt and then you "loose" the...

I was aboard this boat today. Wow!

wow thats expensive for a single screw.. and fyi, i noticed the genny is started by the main engine batts though it seems every other system has its own battery bank and separate chargers. i like the lines, not as much as my dream boat (the GB Eastbay).
