Anyone tried to use a descaler for their heatexchangers?

I treated my port exchanger yesterday. The process involves pumping "snake oil" through the raw water system at a point beyond the impeller to the exhaust, and circulating the stuff for a few hours. * Havent yet had a chance to see if any improvements on engine temps but will make sure to...

    Depth Sounder Transducers

I understand you are not looking to use the sonar for fishing, however the technology is developed with "fishing money" and hence good fishfinders typically are good depth sounders. Personally I did some research on this topic and found that the M260 is a VERY good solution. If you want...

    Firearms on Board

does anyone know the rules in california? i do find it humorous to note that in Countries (ie down under and Canada) where the Queen of England is still collecting taxes, the personal carriage of fire arms is prohibited, the exact reason it will never be illegal in USA to carry a gun (and the...

    Greatness

i am not so sure the low income loans made that big of a dent it the grand picture but honestly i dont know? Don, bravo - political favors for political contributions (campaign $$). you hit it right on the nail. As long as this is allowed, we will have a failed democratic system. OK perhaps...

    Leaking rudder shaft

just like a shaft pack, just 25 times harder to get your hands onto. (on my boat). for me the problem is always to get the packs in tight enough to get the thread to take..

    Mother's Day Weekend

Weather in So California was windy and gusty sunday; a 38' tall californian acts like a sailboat in these conditions sans the keel that is.. yep, not easy to dock at all.. i am still a little nervous in those conditions and most often when i dock it is gentle style, which is really not a good...

    Greatness

John, More and more i do blame the banks. Initially i did not, now i am becoming angry and i dont think i am alone. Banks did not do their due diligence, they encouraged people to buy houses well above what those properties should be worth. We all know now that it was a bubble, and that trees...

    Chart plotter anguish

I am starting to look for upgrades, all the new stuff sounds so cool. All those things you can do, and on one big colorful screen. But then i think again, do i really need it? My older Furono separate units work fine and if one goes down the others still work. Am i going somewhere that i need to...

well, so far all i have done is tear off the half loose pads, cleaned up all the old glue from pad and tube. now i am ready to try again.. i dont have a good place to actually do this job.. (cannot be in the sun and must have low humidity). btw, the instructions that came with the pads indicate...

    Checklists

i thought we were the only ones who had the " where is the ..., did you leave it on the boat?" issues. we have numerous cords for phone charging, kids game charges etc etc. now an entire bag is set aside for this purpose. and once after i had my tools out doing repairs 3 times ago, wifey...

    34' LRCs and trailers

7200 doesnt sound bad, i guess it includes putting her back in the wet? having a boat on HI is just an awesome concept, is it difficult to get a slip and what are the cost? 2300 mile, i guess it would take you 230 running hours = 10 days non stop. would make for one hell of a trip but i am not...

    Checklists

there are other ways to remember stuff. in aviation lots of acronyms are used. example is CIGARS for a pre-take off: C: controls free and correct I: instruments set, compass dialed in etc. G: Gas on proper tanks, boosters on etc. A: Attitude (set trims and take off flaps if required) R: Run up...

Sometimes when on the FB I have trouble getting in gear. Seems the "Morse" control cable need to be adjusted. My mechanic says the FB control is conected to the PH control (from where i have no problems getting in gear) Anyone have experience with this? * thanks,

    34' LRCs and trailers

Eric, I am curious to hear what the crossing will cost you? Pasha is a RO/RO type service? You may want to look into removing the running gear to get it on the trailer. A lowboy trailer could be an option but i think they are around 50ft long so you'd probably have to pay higher cost to Pasha...

    iPhone vs Droid...AT&T vs Verizon

we have the sprint mifi thing, it works very well. we dont have a TV so the kids watch netflix on the pc streamed via the sprint mifi. i would say it works better than a traditional "air-card" which you plug into the usb.

    Checklists

Carl, Not sure, probably some boats have and some do not, i have not tried on mine. But as in airplanes, I would not want to take it for granted even if it does have a disconnect switch engaged. Airplanes with retractable gear has a switch in the landing gear engaged when there is weight on the...

    Solar Panel

i used two panels of each 85W and a sunsaver MPPT CC. this weekend i did some experimenting and unplugged the shoreline. solar did fine, ran the fridge and radio etc. i used also the waterheater but that really takes some amps out of the battery banks. according to the meter the solar supplied...

    Checklists

Being also a trained GA pilot I have the same ideas but never actually put together a list. But you cannot write everything down, same in flying the checklist is just a short list reminder. if one was to make a check list it would be something like: Pre-inspection complete - CHECK (check all...

    34LRC battery location?

the combiner is similar to the the blue sea ACR i have installed.. be careful not to drop that tub in the sea, that could cause issues.. and be aware of the CO2 issues with using gasoline powered generators, it can be deadly, all it takes is one good inhalation of CO2 and its done..
