    Refrigerator misfunction

Well, I hope you're right about the rectifier as that would probably be the easiest solution. I'm waiting for a response from Waeco/Dometic. If I don't hear from them soon or if they don't answer the phone, I'll just go ahead and try the new rectifier like you suggested and see if that solves...

    Refrigerator misfunction

My refrigerator doesn't want to operate at the dock with the AC power connected, but appears to run fine on DC power. I was wondering if any of you have an idea of where the problem is. The refrigerator is a WAECO top loading unit. It has a Danfoss BD35F compressor with a Danfoss 101N0220...

    Newbie Entering Chesapeake Bay

I'll third (fourth?) Baltimore. We once spent a week touring the Bay from Washington D.C. up to Baltimore and back (we had a faster boat then). Baltimore was one of our favorite stops. We stayed at the Inner Harbor Marina. Excellent location for visiting the main Baltimore attractions. We...

Headliner Track for Manship 34 Pilot

I'm also planning to replace the headliner in my Mainship Pilot 30. I recently removed the old one and am taking care of a few housekeeping items before trying to put up the new headliner. I'll be watching this thread with interest. Let us know if you learn of any tips to make the job easier...

    Coast Guard boarding: what ID?

So, I was curious and had to check. According to the VA DWR website, with respect to non-residents: "If you are operating a boat registered in another state, but temporarily using the waters of Virginia for a period of 90 days or less, you must meet the applicable boating safety education...

    Coast Guard boarding: what ID?

Well, that's a bit of an eye-opener for me. I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Fortunately, when I lived in MD and boated on the lower Potomac, we always turned left when he hit Point Lookout!

Why did you buy your boat?

This is not the first boat I bought, by a long shot. But it is the biggest we ever owned (to date). I was actually looking at Parker fishing boats with an enclosed cockpit and outboard motor and rudimentary overnight accomodations -- 23' or 25'. But then, on a whim, we went and looked at a...

    Coast Guard boarding: what ID?

I guess I'm going off on a tangent here, but does the requirement to carry proof of a boater safety course only apply to driver's of boats registered in VA or to VA residents? I hate to think that anyone from out of state who is passing through the VA portion of the Chesapeake on their way to...

Fresh water tank leaking on my 2006 Mainship Pilot 30.

It should be aft, on the port side. At least it is on my boat (also an '06). You can access it from the hatch in the aft deck above the rudder stock. (And by "access it" I mean "see the aft and inboard sides of it" )

Pilot 30/34 Hard top vs Soft top

I can confirm that the Pilot 30 (with hardtop) is LOUD at high cruising speeds. But, I've never been in a soft top model so I can't provide a comparison. I don't expect it would be that much different. I suppose the noise is a tradeoff for being able to go that fast. And yes, we've...

Trawlers that cruise a bit faster...

I may be biased, but for your budget, speed, and size requirements, and the fact that you don't mind small spaces, a 30' Mainship Pilot would definitely be worth considering. We mostly use ours for day trips and occasional weekend trips. We routinely cruise in the 16 knot range, 18-20 knots if...

Dumb question - what is this?

Just to close out this thread, that panel was, technically, the galvanic isolator monitor panel. The unit that I found behind the panel was the GI monitor unit. The actual GI was mounted in the galley under the refrigerator, and was easily accessed by removing a wood trim panel. Once we (I...

Dumb question - what is this?

Yep, I confirmed it's the galvanic isolator. It turned out that this one was relatively easy to trace as the isolator was mounted in the space behind the display. I just had to remove the stereo speaker and electrical panel to access it. See, I told you it was a dumb question!

Dumb question - what is this?

Well, it's disconnected now because the alarm wouldn't stay shut off! I'll try to trace the wires the next time at the boat to confirm that's what it is. It just occurred to me that the alarm only seemed to come on when I connected to shore power, so the GI seems a good bet huh? I'll look...

Dumb question - what is this?

There are several (about a dozen) very small wires of various colors coming out of the bulkhead and having their ends soldered to a circuit board on the back of this thing. It's not an A/C control or CO detector because I have those in other locations onboard. It appears to be some kind of...

Dumb question - what is this?

Can anyone tell me what the electronic thing mounted below my light switches is? Do I need it? Is so, where can I get a new one? The boat is a 2006 Mainship 30 Pilot II. The face plate was missing when I bought the boat and I can't find any identifying information anywhere else on it. I...

    Washington DC dockage

When I worked at the Washington Navy Yard, I kept my boat at the James Creek Marina in SW. Not as nice as the Capital Yacht Club, but it wasn't bad and the price was right. That was 15 years ago. If I was going back, I'd look into the Yards Marina as well as James Creek. I don't know...

Vacation Time...How much do you have?

I'm in my mid-50s and starting to see retirement appear on the horizon. I could probably retire now and live fairly comfortably but that would have a drastic impact on my boating and travelling lifestyle. But then again, so does working full time which only allows me to get away a few weeks...

    Hurricane Michael Panama City area

They're cleaning up St. Andrews marina in Panama City. Heartbreaking sights there. I'm trying to be optimistic that it won't take so long to fix things back up. :ermm:

    Hurricane Michael Panama City area

Our neighborhood, right on the bay about 20 miles west of the eye. The water rose to about 18" above the walls of this canal behind our house.
