    Adhesive cleaner/remover?

My experience is that Goo-gone is no where near as good as the overly expensive 3M

    Opinion on diesel heaters

My Webasto fan died and it was cheaper to replace it with a Chinese knockoff that performed just as well as the Webasto.

    Ozone Generator

Nozone Don't do it ... ozone destroys plastics and rubber. Most particularly when the materials are in tensile conditions.

    Coffee making underway

K Cups I never saw myself as a k cup person but they have proven quite convienient. We have a coffee make with a resevoir so under way the only liquid you have to handle is the coffee in your cup. The whole operation is equally covienient at dock when I stop by for a quick boat welfare check --...

    Engine Personalities

Put Perkins lower on that list Having had six Perkins and one Cummins -- the Cummins wins hands down -- easy to work on and parts are reasonable and readily available. Currently have a 370 hp Volvo and do not see myself going that way again. Runs well but you are really captive on parts and...

Which is the best dinghy ?

I had a 8 foot Walker Bay on a previous boat and I certainly concur that they deliver great value and performance per dollar. Pretty darn bullet proof

Which is the best dinghy ?

Quest for the perfect dinghy My wife and I had a Mainship 34 trawler that we used to explore the San Juans, the Sunshine Coast and up into Desolation Sound and points beyond. During our ownership we utilized two different davit systems and six different dinghies. Early on in the sorting process...

    High pilothouse, good or bad?

Tall good for PNW You will not regret a tall wheelhouse in the PNW -- easier to spot flotsam and gets you into tight anchorages

All Chain vs Chain and Line Anchor Rode

Mainship 34 We cruised a Mainship 34 trawler in the PNW with 70 feet of 5/16 chain and 200 feet of 5/8 3 strand. Found that most of our day stops were all chain. Gave us the benefits of all chain without the weight penalty

    Bow or Stern Thruster?

I vote for a stern thruster Our Mainship 34 came with a bow thruster. With years of single screw experience I thought the bow thruster was a great toy. I added a stern thruster and my oh my what a great tool ---- the stern can actually go port and starboard in reverse with aid of the thruster...

    Communications While Docking

Wrong helm station My wife and I have been cruising a 2005 Mainship 34 going on five years. My first instinct was to dock the boat from the fly bridge where I had a stellar 360 degree view. In reality it put me the farthest possible distance from deck hands dock hands, the dock and the mooring...

    Single or Twin Screw!!

Twins or singles -- have had both over the last 50 years and I am sold on singles -- less maintenance, more room to work, more storage room and in the PNW the prop is not on the outboard chines sucking in garbage. In terms of maneuvering my Mainship 34 has bow and stern thrusters and can turn in...

what size prop do you recommend?

Jeff -- there are a lot of good information being supplied by members is great but I will guarantee you will never reach your desired goal if the tachometer is not calibrated properly -- for about $35 you can buy an optical tach and make sure the tach you are propping to is reading correctly...
