Wipe the hoses with a wet rag then smell them.I went thru diesel smell hell until I took a cabinet apart and found the fill hose permeated with diesel. It was likely original and had delaminated. By the way I tried all degreasers, odor eaters ect. If its a bad hose replacement is the only answer...

    battery location

I have a contract on a Jefferson 50ft MY. The boat has four 4D AGM batteries under the seat of the dinette for the inverter. They are bulging a little but worked well during a 4-5 survey. I suspect I will be buying new ones soon. There are no dates on the batteries. My question is whether or...

    Well, Screw That!

Bulging disc I am a urologist and unfortunately I have a disk problem as well. A bulging disc can certainly be decompressed where itis impinging on the cord. It looks like you have some decent disc Remaining between the vertebral bodies. Good luck with the surgery.

    hot seals

Thanks for the help. The graphite was put in without cutting strips. Does it need to be cut in sections like teflon?

    hot seals

recently my mechanic repacked my stuffing box with graphite. I had teflon before He told me the graphite packing should not drip at all even underway. I've read that graphite disperses heat much better than teflon and drips less but I still had concerns. We left the marina -idiling for ten...

    smelly head

sorry - sent my response but didnt come through. We ;use the bow head more since the tank is 6 ft away and we therefore put less water in waste tank. The aft head is probably 15 to 18ft away from the waste tank. The heads use lake water. There has never been an immediate smell from flushing the...

    smelly head

Smell head Sorry did not answer all the questions. There is a shower in the bow head. I have cleaned it . It has very little smell. The only time we get true waste smell is when the tank is full.

i have electric heads fore and aft. The bow cabin opens to the head. There is an acrid smell in the head and the cabin. I sealed the bowl with plastic wrap and the smell dimenished noticeably. The other head has no smell and no bad smells come out the vent with a flush. We keep the tank...

    water tank leak

finally decided the water tank could not be repaired in situ without major demolition. We cut the closet door to the washer dryer space and took the washer out and broke it down. It must have been original since there was no way to get it out without cutting some wood. We found the hatch under...

    water tank leak

finally getting around to the leak. My mechanic feels we can cut a hatch in the top of the tank then pour in epoxy to seal the leak. Unfortunately the only exposure is a one ft. by one ft.hatch thru the aft cabin floor. I had a waste tank leak as well which was solved by sealing the bottom and...

    water tank leak

finally getting around to the leaky water tank. Only access is a one foot square hatch in the aft cabin floor. The main fuel tank lies on top of the water tank under the bed but the tank extends another four feet forward. I'm thinking about putting in a bladder rather than taking out the floor...

    harmonics

I have a 1988 californian. Had a slight vibration after touching a muddy bottom. The marina went overboard - I asked them to check the running gear and check the alignment. The props were sent to a local prop shop. I drove the boat back to our marina and immediately heard a squeal from the...

    vibration

Recently I touched bottom in mud for a few seconds. The result was a slight vibration in the starboard side. could only feel it by placing my hand on the shaft. Took it to our marina shop to check it out. Apparently one of the starboard motor mounts was loose. We had run the boat only once since...
