    Bad ground?

thanks for your reply. indeed these gauges are VDO the problem does not seem to be related to one gauge, its across the board. strange as this sounds it started with the instrument light switch, when i turned it on position, all the gauges deflected full right. so you are saying there is a bad...

    Pulling a Boston Whaler?

I have towed my 13ft whaler behind my Blackfin. When maneuvering and inside traffic areas/marinas I haveit tied on my aft corner with perhaps 4 ft of line, this has worked well - use bumpers as needed. When in open sea i use a bridle tied on the transom cleats. I typically tow it with the ob...

    Bad Ground?

eh - have been doing fairly well without too many incidents this year. however on our last trip, i early on noticed my sb alternator was out of range pushing over 15volt, had to slow down to apprx 1000 rpm to keep it in range. once i got to our destination, I snipped the yellow wire to take it...

How to handle one engine failing?

if the prop is freewheeling the drag produced = the energy needed to spin the prop and shaft. in aviation terms this is sort of induced drag. if the prop is locked, the drag produced is = parasite drag. you could measure those at various speeds.

she runs 3208s - each is 375 hp goes 28 kts on wot, we cruise at around 15kts which is much more economical. my previous boat was also not a true trawler though she had a hard time getting on a plane.

    Twin Engines, Locking One Shaft

I have done a test on this subject. if my one prop is locked, the force is too strong for me to keep a straight line forward at any speed, in other words I am not able to maneuver at all, the boat will turn into the bad engine regardless of rudder position. If i allow the prop to freewheel I am...

    Shared ownership

I dont see much of an issue.. nothing i couldnt live with and to me it is much different than having and sharing my wife. 1) One partner is using the boat and there's a major mechanical failure (blown engine or such). Who pays for repairs? The joint ownership pays the cost for major repair...

Fuel Contamination (and Racor Filter Help)

Those moorings are easy as long as the wind is down the line more or less, if the wind is not in your favor it is a good thing the harbor patrol is so helpful BTW, i just got back today from 7 days at The Isthmus and 2 days in Avalon. question: I heard some fuel docks add additives and some...

Fuel Contamination (and Racor Filter Help)

thats a very fair rate imho. i did that a few years ago and think it was more than a BOAT but they also added a gauge so that I can check the fuel level at the helm. dont know about the mix og alu and steel - leave it to others with the knowledge. btw, here is the requested photo:

thanks for all the replies the fitting i have looks like a 3/8 jic. what i did was to purchase a reverso jabsco pump installed on a 4 gallon bucket. i fitted the hose with some rigged adaptor and use electrical tape to seal and make a tight connection, it worked well...

Fuel Contamination (and Racor Filter Help)

clearly fuel is coming from the tank(s) in position 6 o'clock the device could be a pump or perhaps it could be a vacum / air sensor? if it is a pump and it is disconnected it would potentially explain why FW's racor's are not filling up all the way. the other positions are: both / fwd / aft /...
