New Weather Forecast (To me anyway)

Have been using the site since last February, when a circumnav sailor buddy of mine sent the link to me. I've used it for the Bahamas and along the Gulf Coast regions, mostly. It's been spot on, especially in the 1-4 day out range. Highly recommend it!

Source for white laminate in the head

I think what you're looking for is a thin plastic panel, not really "Formica". Check a Home Depot/Lowes in the building materials by the wooden paneling and plywood. Home Depot SKU#179646. It's very thin, flexible plastic paneling that cuts easily with a utility knife and can be glued down...

    KiwiGrip results?

Ted, I did my decks and fly bridge with light gray Kiwi Grip last fall. Very easy and am pleased with the results. No need to sand/grind the existing non-skid, just wire brush any loose patches and do a good wash with Simple Green to degrease. I used the roller supplied with the kit and...

    Perkins 4-236 died - Pump?

I recently have had an almost identical experience with my port-side 4.236, but just got a different diagnosis. Wasn't "at sea" at the time, but at the dock a couple of weeks ago doing a routine filter change... While I've always changed the Racor filter at the tank, I have never had to change...

    MMSI and Bahamas

Agree with all above... The FCC site is typical govt site; not very user friendly. However, I just ordered a new ship's license and MMSI and received it in the mail in four days! At least SOMETHING in the govt seems to work......... That being said, I think the vessel must also be a USCG...

    Cork Veneer Ceiling

Al... Wow! I don't think I've ever seen a 34 LRC with TWO ports in the cabin. Your's is a "galley up" model, correct? Matt... I got them at Defender, $165 a piece, with all hardware for mounting and bug screens, part #900511. Because of the spigot depth, I stood them off from the fiberglass...

    Cork Veneer Ceiling

Bustlebomb... I know the feeling, except in our house it's when the wife is watching HGTV and says, "Hey, you can do that with our house!". :ermm: The studs and strips are adhered with 3M 5200 and stainless screws. On the sheer vertical section in the cabin where the port lights are, the...

    Cork Veneer Ceiling

Thanks, all! She's starting to look like one of those fancy Hinckley "lobster boats"... Lord, I hope not. I want it to look good, but not so good that I'm afraid to use it! It's been tedious work, but not difficult. Worst part is trying to get a somewhat level and squared substructure with...

    Cork Veneer Ceiling

I know this is an older thread, but thought it fit the topic if someone is looking for this type of info... Finally getting around to replacing the old butterscotch vinyl headliner and the nasty carpet and cork that was on the hull walls in the cabin with bead board and trim. Tricky job, as...

    Charter--Abaco vs BVI ?

Shhhhhhh...... :nonono: All talk of the Abaco's in a positive light must cease immediately, else they'll soon be as crowded as the BVI have become! Remember the mantra to outsiders: the water is cold and cloudy, it rains almost every day, the currents are deadly and takes too long to get...

42 LRC Teak and Holly Floor Removal

FlyWright: Looks great! Yes, the ability to dine out on the transom is fun; and so easy. The table itself I got from a buddy that had had it custom built for his sailboat but then changed his mind. I just mounted it on the quick-release set up. Sam: By "seams" I take it you mean the trim...

42 LRC Teak and Holly Floor Removal

Thanks, guys. It's a slooooow process bringing her back to life. The access plug is to check/fill the coolant on the starboard engine without having to pull the entire access door up. There's also a plug in the floor of the middle storage compartment, under the settee for the port engine...

42 LRC Teak and Holly Floor Removal

Just finishing up some floor work on Sandpiper… Nasty carpet before, teak & holly ply now. I wanted something that looked OK but was easily cleaned and serviceable, not something so nice that I would freak when something got spilled or the dog was aboard. I had looked into the manufactured...

If anyone is considerin a fixer upper 34' Californian check this one out..

Well, looks like she may be coming to Texas on her hull afterall... my shipper says that Florida will not give a permit unless the flybridge is removed.* I don't think it's worth all of the trouble to do so... The kicker is that once the work is done, I'll be taking her right back to the...

If anyone is considerin a fixer upper 34' Californian check this one out..

Greetings... Good timing with your question, as I too am the new owner of a C-34 with a trucking issue.* The boat is currently in the Bahamas.* The plan is to move her on her hull to the east coast of Florida and then truck her here to Houston where I can do the restoration. If you don't mind...
