    Work/Boat balance

I still run my business, "working" a couple days a week. It all comes down to your IT infrastructure. I started by moving all services to the cloud. No more servers, no more phone system, no more nothing. That makes no one "place" any more important than any other place.

    Time for Lithium House

Sorry for my apparent miscommunication. The EPOC batteries are offered with and without Victron Communications. The world does not "need" victron communications, but being as I have a Victron based Dc system, I'll opt for the "victron communications" when I buy batteries.

    Time for Lithium House

I have the exact same qty 4 L16 Lead Acid house bank. I also have a high capacity charging system that can take advantage of the higher acceptance rate of the Lithium batteries. Probably this winter the plan is to change out the FLA batteries for two of the Epoch Lithium 460 AH. I do not...

Stainless steel work - price check???

So here is my challenge... I did not start out on this idea to create a wonderful stainless structure on my boat, regardless if it is a good price, which i think in reality it is a very fair price for quality work. My goal is to create a rigid roof for my flying bridge area, and to enclose...

Stainless steel work - price check???

The more I think about it, in the big picture of what I want to do with the boat, it's a LOT of money, even if it's a fair price. All I want to do is have a hard top and some side curtains to create a dry area up top. I might enquire about alumanium, or re-think the project. If I continue...

Stainless steel work - price check???

I am wanting to have a stainless steel structure fabricated to be the support for a hard top on my flying bridge. The local guy here in La Paz quoted me $9800 USD all total for something similar to this but of course on the flying bridge. Anybody had any stainless work done lately? Does this...

    SF to Cabo San Lucas

You'll be fine in January. The weather is calm that time of year on the outside, with occasional northerlies, so if anything you'll have a tail wind.

    Humidity and Living Aboard

I lived aboard in Seward Alaska for several years. In the summer you open the windows and deal with it, because at least it's warm outside. Fal, and spring, and winter I ran two portable dehumidifiers, plug in type. This improved comfort greatly. Yes, in the dead of winter they were less used...

    Changing Battery Size? 4x L16 to 8x GC2?

I have the same L16 house bank. If I were to replace my house bank today I would probably use one of these. Go from 440 pounds total to 164 pounds total in about the same square foot of floor space. Go from 420 AH useable (at 50% discharge) to 920 amp hours usable. At a cost of fairly close...

    Safe Harbor monopoly?

If you are in San Diego, why not go to Ensenada. The rates are lower, the services are top notch, and they do not even question how many nights you sleep on your boat.

If You Only Had One Tender, What Would It Be From Experience?

I want through this very same thing. First I had a Zodiac YL340 with a 30 HP engine. No way I was moving that thing a inch up the beach. It was a non starter from the get go. Then I bought a all Aluminum tender that was only 200 pounds and i put a yamaha 6 hp on the back and a good set of...

    My Experience with Victron

Then just like i posted above, change the way the charger goes into float mode. This can be either current based, or time based. I would just up the time myself.

    My Experience with Victron

First calibrate your SOC, and make sure that the BMV accurately reflects the batteries you actually have. Also set your BMV to auto go to 100% SOC after current drops below a prescribed current level. This will keep it calibrated. Also any idea that your system shows immediately or rapidly in...

    My Experience with Victron

So my only real challenge is the part I circled in your photo. Other than that it appears that your unit is functioning as it is programmed. You apply power, and current maxes out. The voltage rises until it gets 14.3 volts then it holds there, reducing current. When the absorbion to float...

    My Experience with Victron

OK, this morning when it first went into absorbsion, what was the voltage the batteries were showing? This is important because it should go into absorbsion at 14.30 volts according to the photos you attached to your previous post.

    My Experience with Victron

Question... When you first apply shore or generator power what is your SOC on your BMV? Again when you first apply shore or generator power does your multiplus go into bulk, and then quickly switch to absorption or does it just go into absorption with never going to bulk?

Garmin mis match of radar over chart

A good way to check if the overlay/radar mis match is your equipment, or the charts, would be to check where the AIS reports other boats position vs where the radar shows they actually are.

Garmin mis match of radar over chart

Generally radar vs chart overlay problems are because of inaccuracies in your heading sensor.

    New "marine" BBQ

I love life in Mexico! But... my cruising partner was just approved for her American tourist Visa, after waiting 2 years for an appointment, so we will be heading back up the coast next spring to spend the summer exploring the Pacific Coast. We might come back the next winter, or we might...

    New "marine" BBQ

I was looking at replacing my Sea B que once more. By the time you buy a burner, and grates you have really bought the grill. I was tired of the small size as we entertain often and wanted a larger BBQ. I also wanted a BBQ with multiple burners. That narrowed it down to a house size BBQ, and...

    New "marine" BBQ

Today we tried out the rotisserie on our new "marine" BBQ. I got tired of my little Sea B Que and decided to up the game a bit. To make it seaworthy I held it in place using stainless Steel hardware.
