Trawler Trash book series and real life Larry Briggs

How sad, two days from his post about cancer to death. Life is precious and short. RIP Ed. You created a helluva character in Breeze. Your writing entertained and inspired many.

Yes but I thought someone here might be looking for a tender or a second boat for fishing.

    FS: Regulator 28

I did 3 weeks ago, jut have a good cleaning crew. My favorite time of year and type of fishing.

    FS: Regulator 28

Not the typical boat for this forum, but maybe someone here or a friend is looking for a center console to fish or tow. Send me a note for more pics or details. This boat was purchased in 2018 while the owner waited for a 39ft custom build. It served as a chase boat for a 64 Viking (never...

FYI the Flemings from Burr are back on YW.

    Flemings on Yachtworld

I looked at a 55 at Burr earlier this year. Very nice place, friendly and knowledgeable people. Made a joke that they never lower their prices and have a monopoly on east coast Flemings. A few weeks later, I wanted to go back and look again with my girlfriend in town. When I texted the broker...

    Yachtworld Advanced Search Function

The advanced link to the .com site is now redirecting to all listings. The .co.uk link above still works. Annoying.

    Emergency escape hatch

It strikes me that virtually every sportfish convertible with a dingy on the bow (and many without one) would fail. We're all paying closer attention in light of this tragedy, but doesn't this make convertibles inherently more dangerous than other boat styles?

PM story on a sunken GB in Hopetown

Thankfully we do know something about it, because he wrote two posts. One before the storm hit with his plan and the previously linked post mortem that ended up in PM. Here's a link to his last post before landfall: https://cruisingwiththechilbergs.com/2019/08/31/hurricanes-dorian-approaches/...

PM story on a sunken GB in Hopetown

Dorian was no surprise to the Abacos and they were snorkeling 2 days before landfall. I was looking at 2 boats in south FL the Wednesday before while it was 300 miles away and everyone was scrambling. Several posts reference that it was too dangerous to flee, shouldn't they have left earlier...

    Flemings on Yachtworld

I was at Burr when they were prepping for Dorian and there were several for sale. I have to think there's a technical issue at YW or Burr took them down short term for some reason. I teased the guy at Burr that they control the prices with an iron fist and they never seem to go down, maybe they...

PM story on a sunken GB in Hopetown

This story irritated me. Why didn't these people run from the storm? They sunk a nice boat, consumed resources that could have gone to others and put their lives at risk. And a somewhat broader question, why did I see so many large boats get ruined? I can understand someone not being able to...

    Rebuilding the Abaco's....?

I think (hope) it's unlikely a big resort will come to the Abacos. Unlike buying an undeveloped island, you'd have to assemble dozens of parcels, many from families who have owned them for a long time. They'd need to build or buy a marina and perhaps an airstrip. You might end up with something...

2017 Takacat 300L dinghy with Suzuki 6hp outboard

I bought a Takacat T300L (now 300LX) in the spring of 2017 along with a 2017 Suzuki DF6 (6hp, model DF6AS2) outboard. I chose this combo because it was the lightest dinghy/outboard combo I could find. The takacat is 3m long (just under 10ft) and 1.6m wide (just over 5ft). It weighs about 60lbs...

Boat offers and the negotiation process

My approach on initial offers has been contrasting 2 numbers. First number is discounting asking price by about 10-15% and imagining what the survey shows. Second number is full price minus critical repairs, minus my primary subjective issue (eg electronics or new upholstery). I then consider...

Boat offers and the negotiation process

I understand what you're saying but it was a clear offer, he just rejected it. The conversation started: "Hey it's mod45, thanks for showing us again tonight. I did some research and I know you have another offer pending so let's get right to it. My offer is $X. I know that's probably lower...

Boat offers and the negotiation process

What do you mean I wasn't making an offer to the broker?

Boat offers and the negotiation process

Wow this thread got going again! I considered it resolved. As stated on page 1, it's clear from the feedback my mistake was not insisting the offer be submitted in writing. The buyer never got a chance to consider it and I allowed the broker to filter it out - valuable lesson learned. Some...

Boat offers and the negotiation process

Thanks. I try to treat everyone as competent and honest until they prove otherwise. Sure it's blown up in my face on occasion, but in the long run it's saved me countless hours, legal fees and forged some great partnerships.

Boat offers and the negotiation process

No offense taken. I don't think this is the case. A brief amount of research and the conversation we had would confirm I'm a qualified buyer.

Boat offers and the negotiation process

Everyone's different. I'm not offended by any offer and certainly don't need to see it in writing because a buyer can back out of it several ways. If they're serious, the followup will happen within 24 hours, if not who cares. I've sold businesses, solidified partnerships and bought/sold real...

Boat offers and the negotiation process

Thanks, going forward I will submit offers on paper, the seller not seeing it at some point probably cost me the boat. It's funny though, many times I've had brokers chant the mantra "put it in writing, put it in writing" and in this case he didn't push for it at all. He kept saying the number...
