    inexpensive nema to wifi router

I have a YakBitz, it was easy to set up and works great. Goes from my Standard Horizon AIS receiving VHF to my iPad running Navionics, exactly as you describe. I'm going to try to set it up later this year on a Starlink wifi network and see if that works, but haven't tried it yet.

    Marine Hot Water Tank

I just replaced a 23 year old raritan 20gallon with another Raritan 20 gallon. It was an exact replacement, which made it easy. We replaced because it started leaking out of the bottom of the tank, not sure how often the PO replaced the annode, but still, 23 years sounds good to me for a water...

    Onboard Battery Charger Recommendations

Any thoughts on something like this for a 700Ah house bank: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ER3LH5W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What do you look for in a yacht club

    1. Outstations That is all. That is why we quit the Seattle Yacht Club when my dues went up when I turned 35, even though we just bought a boat. We never went to the clubhouse and didn't attend events. The outstations were great and we would love to go to them, but we would go to about 5 a...

    Anchor issue

Here is the 45lb on there. I think the Vulcan would fit no problem, the Boss is just a little bigger all around. The modification was about 90 seconds with a rasp... just so it didn't catch on the way down.

    Anchor issue

That reminds me: I did have to take a file to the outside of the pulpit to get rid of about 0.5" to accommodate the 45lb Boss. On our new boat I went with the Vulcan and was surprised when my wife arrived when she said the new 88lb Vulcan looked about the same size as the 45lb Boss. She was...

    Anchor issue

Hi Allan, I currently have that same boat for sale up here in the PNW, It came with a 33lb Bruce that seemed to fit better than what you have, but I put a Manson Boss 35lb and 45lb anchor on that pulpit and both fit well. I'm sure a Rocna Vulcan or the Mantus M2 would fit as well.

    Anchor sizing confirmation

I'm pretty sure that nobody plans of staying overnight in unprotected anchorages with heavy winds... but if you end up in that situation the 25kg Rocna is plenty.

    Backup anchor choice

Thanks for the thoughts, but I'm not going to spend $700 on a Fortress as a backup anchor when I currently have two that would work, especially when you point out that you haven't used them in 10 and 12 years respectively. I think I'll probably go with the Bruce as it will store easier in the...

    Combine house and start?

I think it’s still cheaper to get them direct from Dyno. They quoted me $156 per battery with no core charges.

    Combine house and start?

Okay, thanks everyone for the opinions and information. At this point I'm going to replace 2 8d House bank with 6 Dyno 6V golf cart batteries, separate the house and start (but keep it switchable in case of emergency), and add a separate generator start battery on an ACR. I'll also keep the...

    Backup anchor choice

The Boss is definitely bigger than the Bruce as far as fluke size and width goes. I'm not sure if the Bruce is an original or a knock off. The Boss worked great on our 40'er the last couple years so I like that anchor, never used a Bruce before. I can't imagine going down to haul out...

    Backup anchor choice

I just got a new 88lb Rocca Vulcan for my Navigator 53 and I would like to have a backup. My options are the 60lb Bruce that came with the boat or my 45lb Manson Boss from my old boat. This will be on 80 feet of chain and 200 feet of rode. The Boss is about the same size fluke size as the new...

    Boat Ranking / Selection spreadsheet

Our's was super helpful after we knew the boat we wanted... when the one we finally bought popped up on a Thursday night I was intrigued, but after I entered in all the specs we put in a contingent offer sight-unseen on Friday morning, flew down Saturday morning to see it, and still ended up in...

    Boat Ranking / Selection spreadsheet

I ran a spreadsheet comparing all available Navigators on the west coast for over a year before we purchased based not on a ratings scale, but $ values attributed to different options. i.e. a watermaker was worth ~$3,000 to me, not because that was the cost of a new one, but because it was...

    Combine house and start?

Hey Tom, Thanks! I would love to see your config, I'll DM you. I am part of the facebook group, I joined a year ago when we decided on the Nav 53, since then have flown from Cordova, AK to San Diego looking for the right one. Finally found ours in Newport Beach. :)

    Combine house and start?

I've considered a full rewire, but as the boat is new to me there are other fun things to spend money on (new anchor!) and it bashed its way up the coast in November so we've discovered many other less fun things to spend money on this year (vaculfush, bow thruster relays), so I'm hoping to make...

    Combine house and start?

re: 6V GC batteries vs. L16 or group 31 While I do have vertical space, I believe I can get 6 GC batteries into one of the double 8D boxes, but only 4 L16 in that area and that would be fairly tight, but certainly worth considering. Units Cost Usable AH Other Costs Total...

    Combine house and start?

I drug anchor two summers ago while coming back from a walk in town and needed to start the engines quickly to avoid another boat so being able to start the engines immediately without going down and flipping switches is a priority. Ideally I would like to keep everything separate, but...

    Combine house and start?

I'm going to split this out from the 8D thread: I have a new to me Navigator 53 with 2 8D's as the starting and another 2 8d's as the house bank that all need replacing, we've been running them combined on the small cruises, but planning on being out in the salish sea for a couple weeks on...

Yee Haw No More 8Ds on ASD!!

I have a new to me Navigator 53 with 2 8D's as the starting and another 2 8d's as the house bank that all need replacing. After a lot of reading I'm thinking 6 Dyno GC batteries for the house in one of the double 8D boxes, and then group 31's to start the TAMD 63's in the other double 8d box...

    Did Windy pick this up?

Windy was calling for 35' waves. I know because my boat was hunkered down for the week in Crescent City on its way north. The wind ripped out several snaps on the bimini but the biggest issue for me was that it set the crew back by 6 day$

    Rigid or inflatable SUP?

We have both and use the inflatables 100% of the time. They are lighter and easier to handle, just fine for dog transport (65 pound mutt), and better for rocky beaches and barnacles because they don't scratch or crack the fiberglass.

    Armchair Weather Routing

I considered going for the adventure and imagine there are a few great moments scattered among what is turning out to be 2-3 weeks of monotony but I prefer to use vacation days with my wife and two girls (3 and 7) rather than a captain I've met once and his crew. They left Bodega Bay this...
