    Lawsuit Rocks the Yacht-Sales World

Real estate potentially a huge shakeup as Zillow Redfin and maybe others might offer direct sales at much lower rates. They scrape MLS for data. Nobody does that in boating.

need to install a cable gland

Probably would work, might be better to use a circular drill (lots of teeth on outside of 5/8" and hollow in the middle) or possibly a wood bit.

need to install a cable gland

No. You cannot pull the connector thru a cable clam (that doesn't mean it can't be on the cable, just that you don't feed it through the rubber grommet from the end. Explained below and in video). You want the cable to be a tight fit in the grommet. An enet cable is roughly 3/16" (I haven't...

need to install a cable gland

This for the win. This is what I do as well. For the enet cable, you don't need a hole saw. Also, you want the hole for the rubber grommet to be a tight fit, use some lubiricant to pass it through. It will compress more when you tighten the outside shell.

    Any Sales on Honda Generators?

Wow. Thanks for this. Though I am seeing for 999, not 899?

    Any Sales on Honda Generators?

Great info. Thanks for this. Always appreciate hearing from an expert rather than hearsay. Was very interesting hearing about Stabil, I had thought/was told do that and you should be good for 6 months, then use/get rid of that batch. I normally just take my old leftover, which is never more than...

    Any Sales on Honda Generators?

You would be surprised. When you turn on your Keurig to heat the water, it will draw ~10-12A. Which is more than a 1k genset puts out.

    Any Sales on Honda Generators?

Been using a honda 2k and knockoff 2k for about 15 years. Got my first knockoff prior to the honda. Always had trouble starting it, but it would run great once started. This at the time was one of the only knockoffs being manufactured, it wasn't a japanese brand. Since then I have also gotten a...

Do I dump my Siren Marine Alarm

OP, if you have Cerbo and cell, then you can get your data. My issue is that I don't have cellular, only wifi, so I can't get the data off. I have looked at ways to do this for less than say $15/mo, which requires some inexpensive cell plan. Pay as you go is about $10/mo, so that might be an...

Cruising Grand Bahama and Abacos, need some recommendations

Thank you for this. Researching both where to go and which marinas to stay in. Boat cruises at 9, can do 20. Looking at what places and cays to see on Abacos, maybe jumping over as you said to Berries and Eluethra. Don't think he is worried about costs.

Cruising Grand Bahama and Abacos, need some recommendations

Friend asked me to accompany them over from FL to Grand Bahama and Abacos for 7-10 days of cruising. My experience has been only a sailboat doing Berries, Eleuthra and always staying on the hook. They want to stay only in Marinas. This is 60' boat. I am doing research so was hoping some others...

    Stability and righting ability

This hits the nail on the head for many coastal cruisers. Most people only consider capsize/rollover in extreme conditions. But without knowing the curves, consider how many have 3-500lbs of dinghy and other stuff up high and what that does to your righting moment of effort. (500 lbs 10' up off...

Thoughts on leasing out my trawler for Loopers

OP, I think the term you are looking for is charter. I purchased a sailing catamaran for me about 9 years ago. I knew I wouldn't be able to use it every week, so I decided to put it into limited charter, 4 or maybe 5 weeks. I would only charter it to sailors who had owned a 30+ ft sailing boat...

    Medicare Abroad

Had a major incident in Europe. Was in ambulance, ER, ICU for 4 days, regular room for 8 more. Total bill, 5k. I think in the US, that bill would have been 50-100k (before insurance negotiated rate). Back in the states, had a similar procedure, was in regular room 2 nights, bill was 13k (before...

Weebles in La Paz Baja (MEX)

Great stuff, thanks for taking us along for the ride! It seems you have some large open water legs in the first chart you posted, unless I am reading this incorrectly. Do you have bail out options pre programmed in prior to departure or if something comes up, wherever you are you figure out...

preferred way of drilling through cabin walls or topside

Is this to put a cable clam in to lead the enet cable from outside to inside? If so, the hole for the cable doesn't need to be countersunk though it will be nicer if you do. I would countersink the screw holes that are used to hold the clam to the fiberglass. You don't need any epoxy if this is...

    Changing name on AIS

This is exactly the case. However, without ratting out my friends, there are MANY in the US who have programmed it themselves rather than paying a service fee. As I said above, it requires you to a)get the SW (this is not provided in the US, but a quick google for it will give you plenty of...

    Circumnavigating on a trawler.

Who cares if you are purposely or not purposely going across the ocean. This sounds like an unbelieveable trip. Hope you do it, and hope you blog it to keep us dreamers keeping the dream!

    Changing name on AIS

It can all be changed by the user if you download the SW and plug into the AIS. You cannot change it via the menu on the system itself.

    Changing name on AIS

What brand. For B&G and Raymarine there is SW on the web that you run on a laptop that you plug into the transceiver's USB port. I am pretty sure the other brands work the same way. If you are computer literate, trivial to do. If not, I wouldn't try it. If you don't want to do this yourself, a...

    Circumnavigating on a trawler.

Came across an old 'Circumnavigator', the Nordhavn magazine from 2010. Thumbing through it, it has a listing of all circumnavigations done by trawlers at the time. 90% were under 50'! I was really surprised to see this, I would have thought you would find many of the 60'+ doing this. First...

Impact of YouTube not allowing ad-blockers?

I am not exactly sure what you are saying... Are you saying that you got this information from clicking on an ad while watching a youtube video? Or are you saying that you saw/maybe clicked on a targeted ad while on a page. Two different things in my mind. First, regarding YT, the few times I...

    Intercoastal Waterway Speed limits

Agree w most people's thoughts. Just curious as I am considering moving from sail to power. Have done this trip on my cat, we average say 6kts, can push 7. (We are passing no one). It is a 1400 mi trip for us. At 50mi a day it is 28 days. At 75 mi a day, it shaves off a week. At 100mi a day, it...
