    GB32 Stern tube removal

Hey all! Long story short, my 1972 woodie 32 burnt up its transmission a while back, but I had never identified the cause. New transmission is in, but over time I noticed a vibration getting worse, even after aligning etc. So on the hard she goes and I now know the original failure cause: stern...

    Replacing Damper Plate

Hey folks. Just curious. I’m in the midst of replacing my transmission (the BW Velvet Drive AS3-71CR for my GB32. The new damper plate I got (Alto DA-107) has purple springs. But in photos here, all the ones y’all are putting in have red springs. Alto’s “red” spring ones (da-106) are totally...

    American Marine green paint?

Marinization Hey folks. From what I’ve been able to research, the usual Lehman’s that Ford set up for marine use were apparently the red (and white?) ones. However, the same 2714Es that American Marine bought from Lehman and marinized themselves used their own green paint. Prior to buying...

    GB32 transmission questions

Yup 71CR Hi Steve. Actually, I don’t really know what he meant? He seemed to imply that the 71s were too small for the Ford Lehman engine and that they’d burn up - which mine did. But I don’t know which was the chicken and which the egg: did an overloaded clutch pack heat up the oil too hot and...

    GB32 transmission questions

So, I have my 32 and happy as a clam at high tide.... until the transmission oil pump failed and killed the input shaft and ahead clutches. Long story short, I’d spoken with a guy back East who told me I had the wrong tranny, that it should be a Velvet Drive 72C, not the 71C. But everything in...

Questions about (pros and cons)4/53 Detroit Diesels

Excellent advice Good to know, Lepke! Been wondering about appropriate additives, considering my Lehman’s are “ancient.”

Questions about (pros and cons)4/53 Detroit Diesels

Totally agree Leaky? Yup. Loud? Yup. Reliable? Omg yup. In my humble opinion, after 30+ years on ships of all sizes, the /53, /92 and especially the /71s are without a doubt some of the most rugged and dependable engines ever made. So simple! I’ve had them on a variety of smaller boats as...

    American Marine green paint?

Many thanks! Didn’t even realize you could have a store make a spray can in custom color. Will go to work on this! Thanks for such quick replies!

    American Marine green paint?

Howdy everyone! I’m working on freshening up the engine (a Lehman 120) and “new” gearbox on my GB32. Anyone know where I can get my hands on that olive-y green paint they used on engines marinized in house? Or something close? Thanks in advance! Loving this place (and boat)

For Sale: Parting out 1970 Grand Banks GB32

I’d be very interested in talking about the transmission, if you still have it. Mine is a failed Borg Warner 71CR with 2.10:1. However I’ve been hearing that it’s supposed to be a 72C? I’ll give you a call soon, as I’m on west coast Thanks

    GB Roll Call

Gb32-346 She’s a ‘72 Woodie in gorgeous condition (minus a newly-blown transmission) that I bought in July. The absolute perfect boat for my needs. Purrs like a kitten and makes me feel like I’ve taken several Valium tablets, so relaxing is she.
