    Bow thruster reversed direction

thruster props The boatyard did this to me the last time I had the bottom painted. I have a PEnta QL1300 on the stern. As someone else mentioned, you can't just swap the wires as what happens is that the props are now working against each other. You get a little wash (and noise) but virtually...

    Dry bilge??? Raise your hand.....

Dry except when running one of my AC condenser units that appears to drain into the bilge rather than its own vent. I am still trying to find the source. Must be in the hose as best I can tell.

    What size chartplotter display

Bigger is better There is a reason the "real" chart plotters are so expensive - it is because... they are worth it! A real chart plotter will be very bright, bright enough to see in the sun. And because it will be hardwired, will never stop working because of a power issue as is sometimes...

    Forward looking sonar

Wow. Yes, this is a completely different world. But if you need it... it is worth it.

    Forward looking sonar

Yes, you should be going very slow if meandering around coral heads! Power boats are quite a lot more maneuverable than sailboats so this also a consideration.

    Forward looking sonar

I purchased a Garmin Panoptix PS51-TH transducer for this exact purpose. It is forward vu and live vu. It works great. The distance it can "see" ahead is dependent on water depth. Of course this requires a compatible Garmin chartplotter to work. Also, it is very pricey. But you know what they...

    Who has/uses AIS?

AIS? Yes, of course! I remember when people debated getting GPS and cell phones... this is similar. There is no such thing as too much information when it comes to safety. Situational awareness is everything. Be sure to get one with NMEA output so you can see objects on your chart plotters...

Tip amounts for dock line handlers and fuel dock attendance?

I usually go for $10 for both line and pump out folks.

    thinking about a drone

As a long time "drone" pilot (i.e. remote) I highly recommend the DJI line. The Mavic pros are especially great. I have not crashed one in many years as their obstacle avoidance seems to work pretty well. I have used mine on the boat a fair bit... no issues. That said, I have not dunked one...

    forward looking depth sounders again

I am about to install a Garmin PS51-TH. I had to wait almost a year for it. I will let you know how it goes!

    Stabilized Binoculars

Canon's are great My vote is for the Canon... I had a pair for a decade then they mysteriously disappeared. Will be looking for a new pair as stabilized is the only way to go on the water....

    Anchor alarm question

    Dockwa Experiences

I love Dockwa. I just wish all marinas were on the system. That is my only complaint. But yes, I always call ahead as well especially to smaller marinas that are just getting the hang of it.

    Anyone not rename their boat?

I kept the name. It seemed appropriate. I would have changed it if the old one was too personal or silly.

At what point do I need a captain?

Insurance, of course I made a jump from 25 to 54 ft. The insurance company required a captain until I could be signed off by an approved captain/instructor. There is a form with a long list of proficiency requirements that the insurance company wanted to see. It took me about 10 hours to...

    Low energy heating

alternative to running HVAC And of course this saves wear and tear and the much more expensive marine HAVC system!

    Fender Covers

I bought a bunch of black Bumper Buddies via amazon (size 3) the past 8 months and they have all stretched and sagged. They have not faded but this could because they have usually been on the shady side of the boat.
