    I have a 9ft inflatable BRIS that I pair w/ an e-propulsion spirit electric motor. Perfect for ship to shore when moored or on anchor in a harbor. Definitely not a long-distance solution but perfect for our uses, super portable, and don't have to worry about gas spilling, etc. when transporting.

    I was being tongue in cheek, but the point is that unless you are in a heavily trafficked area with nearby rescue resources, the distance offshore doesn't mean a whole lot. I'm in Nantucket Sound most of the time but even then I can be 10+ miles from land in any direction and depending on time...

    When it comes to life rafts, I've always considered anything beyond swimming distance to be offshore. Drowning 2 miles offshore has the same result as drowning 100 miles offshore!

    The pressure gradient from 15 ft to the surface is the largest there is and has the highest risk from over-pressurization injuries.
