    Fiberglass over plywood roof

Hi Mambo! I secured it down with some large bugle screws. I made it as a frame underneath (think like a stud wall) with a bottom plate of timber. I then simply secured this bottom plate straight down with the bugles. I didn't sand away the fibreglass first. After I installed the plywood...

    Fiberglass over plywood roof

A quick update! So far so good with what I have done. Method so far: 1. Sanded off the existing paint back to bare plywood 2. Laid down cloth matting 195gm. 3. Mixed Epoxy Allnext R180 Resin and poured it over the cloth matting. 4. Used squeegy to spread the resin all over. 5. Once dry, sanded...

    Fiberglass over plywood roof

Hey Simi, You have mentioned before using Emerclad. I have found the product - but wanted to check - have you ever used it over Epoxy Resin? I plan on using Emer Clad with a textured roller to get the grip in it - eg - so I can walk on it and not slip :) Just wanted to check how it will stick...

    Fiberglass over plywood roof

Hi again everyone! I've started experimenting with epoxying the front sunbed before I tackle the roof. Its been quite successful so far and I am happy with the results. Method so far has been: 1. Apply the epoxy to the raw plywood 2. Lay over the fibreglass matt 3. Roll it out So far so...

    Fiberglass over plywood roof

Thanks so much! So, using a metric system, am I correct in saying: 2.4m x 1.8m = 4.2sqm. The matt I am looking at is 400grams/sqm. If I double that I will need 800ml of epoxy psm. Does this sound correct?

    Fiberglass over plywood roof

Hey Everyone, Thankyou all for the advice. I have decided to go with the Double Bias matting and have decided to "experiment" first on my sunlounge at the front of the trawler. It is 2400mm x 1800mm. I am going to also do the sides of it, however will tackle the top first. My question is -...

    Fiberglass over plywood roof

Thanks SO much to all of you for your advice! So, just to confirm: 1. Ill sand off the paint - that seems a given! 2. The roof was built to keep the rain out, and also to jump off for my teenage boys :) So.... I like the idea of Kiwigrip to the top! Therefore... the below seems the best way...

    Fiberglass over plywood roof

Hi Everyone! Ive just installed a new plywood roof structure to the back of my trawler. It is acting as a roof to the back deck. I painted the roof with an oil based undercoat, and then applied a Dulux Weathershield paint to finish it off. Whilst it looks nice, I have decided to now...

Thanks Bruce! I will order a book right away! Thanks also for the info... I did search Whitworths and they sell the unit - but they dont really have much info on it. And trying to work out the "whole system" is where I am getting stuck :) I understand the TMC unit can probably simply "pump...

Help! Installing a new toilet system

Hi Everyone, I am hoping I can get some help here as I cannot get my head around the new toilet system for my boat. When I purchased the boat I acquired a TMC 99907 Electric Toilet. It has never been installed. I assume, from what I have read, this toilet has a motor on it and this is the...

Hey Everyone! As part of my new fitout I am needing to install a new audio system - head unit, amp and speakers. So, question for you all…. Do I need a marine head unit? I know this sounds like a stupid question, but…. 1. The head unit will be inside the wheel house 2. The wheel house is...

Tiling walls and floor inside a toilet

Thanks FF. That’s what I was thinking - the tiles may pop due to flexing. What do you mean by “sheet goods”?? Cheers, Lyndon.

Tiling walls and floor inside a toilet

Hey Guys! Question, which may sound ridiculous.... I am building a new toilet up on deck, behind the wheel house. I wanted to get thoughts on tiling the floor and walls inside there. Has anyone done this before? Any success? Or is it a bad idea? Cheers! Lyndon.
