    Battery charger always on?

I have the same AGM batts in my boat...believe the are 102 AH each. Looking at the picture, I can't tell the install date, but each battery has a mfg. date code on it. I believe that model replaced the PC-2150 model, so they are more than likely only a few years old.....

    Sales taxes & Ownership

The discussion of federal documentation and registration can be confusing for sure. Documenting a vessel with the USCG takes the place of a title, not state registration. Some states, Florida and Michigan come to mind, require documented boats to also be state registered (in any state....they...

    Aluminum/Zinc Anodes

Does performance metals sell retail to individuals? I was led to believe they sold to business accounts.

    impeller change

I built a simple platform to allow me to lay forward of the engine. Then used a mirror and changed the impeller by "feel". It's not easy, but it's do-able.

Trim tabs - very slow up and down

On my 2004 390, the reservoir is in the starboard aft corner of the lazarette.

    Throttle Stiffness/Glendinning Synchronizer

I've got a dual helm twin engine setup with separate dual teleflex shifters and throttles and a glendinning engine synchronizer. My port throttle lever(s) are significantly stiffer to operate than the starboard throttle(s). My port throttle is connected through the synchronizer as it's the...

    Folding mast Mainship 350/390 1999

Tachyon, I'm very interested in the hinging method you used on your 390. Do you have any drawings/dimensions/measurements for the hinge plates that the mast base attaches to, including the o-ring groove that you could share? Brian

    New user

Welcome aboard Greg! Another retired Navy machinist's mate here. We dock our Mainship 390 in Murrell's Inlet in SC and plan to do the Great Loop starting next spring. Yes, our background is an advantage when it comes to boat systems and being able to DIY. There is much to learn and a...

    Kohler Generator 6EOZ Zinc?

On my 8EOZ, the zinc plug is nearly underneath the HX, on the end, at the RW pump. I have to remove the hose from the HX nipple on that end in order to even get a wrench on it. It's not too much harder to just remove the HX to change the zinc. I believe the dimensions that porman posted for...

    Generator noise level ms390

Yeah, mine had the fan in it. Not sure if the fan worked or not, but even if it had, I probably would have removed the sound shield anyway. Just checking oil level is something I don't hate doing anymore.

    Rats!

Dealing with this problem right now. Was gone from boat for about 3 weeks and came back to a mess. Most of the oil absorbant pads on the boat were moved/torn up; some shredded for "nesting" material. Lots of droppings in ER and Laz; no sign in cabin. Anyway, put out the above glue...

    Generator noise level ms390

Something to consider with the "soft" sound shield, at least on my 390, it retained moisture/humidity, leading to rust. Also made routine checks and maintenance unnecessarily difficult. I permanently removed mine for those reasons....rather have a bit more noise. YMMV.

    Rudder Shaft Packing

Thank you Dave.....that looks like a good product.

    Rudder Shaft Packing

Preparing to add packing or re-pack both rudder shafts on 2004 Mainship 390. Shaft diameter is 1-1/2 inches. I haven't been able to remove the packing follower in order to measure the ID of the "stuffing box" due to very limited access. Is it safe to assume that I need 1/4 inch packing for...

    Oil leak

That looks like a blanking flange for a typical hydraulic manifold/valve assembly. As was mentioned already, the flange typically will have a machined o-ring groove, sized according to the port size that it is blanking.

    Intercooler accessibility. MS 350/390

Following this thread as I plan to service these on my 4LHA-STP's in the near future. Wish I was 40 years younger and 40 lbs. lighter!

    Vinyl paint

I've had good luck with Rub'nRestore products on aged/faded/stained vinyl cushions on a previous boat. It's a dye, not a paint. Turned out good and held up well for a couple of seasons, till we sold the boat. https://rubnrestore.com

Crane goes crazy and I'm lucky

Might be a bit of thread drift, but this got me thinking.....when my new to me boat was hauled out for survey, I cringed as I observed several people milling about under the boat, as it hung in the slings. I was taught to NEVER stand under a suspended load, but from the hull surveyor to the guy...

    Request to come aboard

Hello Trawler Forum! After owning/operating smaller boats for years, we bought our first “big” boat, a Mainship 390, last year. So far, have only travelled the NC and SC ICW, but planning to visit the Florida keys, Bahamas and do the Great Loop. I’m a retired Navy Machinist’s Mate and...
