Big updates on Seattle's freshest water private marina that isn't behind the locks: Duwamish Yacht Club 5 mi up Duwamish River from Elliott Bay

We are really enjoying our slip we purchased here at DYC and wanted to let others looking for permanent moorage know about these prices if unaware. Not an ad from the board of DYC this is just a personal post from me because I have my boat here and love it and I predict the prices are going way...

What connector to use externally on the boat to recharge dinghy battery?

Okay it's recharging itself now! Thanks for the brainstorm. I'm going to work on moving them up into a roof next but this is great and saves me a huge hassle every day trying to recharge.

What connector to use externally on the boat to recharge dinghy battery?

Yes I see what you both mean but I already have the motor and battery from other acquisitions, so I can't buy a new motor or batteries at this point, I've just got to have fun the most I can with various components in inventory.

What connector to use externally on the boat to recharge dinghy battery?

Yeah right now I'm trying to think how I can use 2-3 flexible 100W panels as a "roof" on the dinghy, in a quonset hut shape. Then everything will be inside the power box. I was thinking like an EV it should have a charging plug but having it just charge while it's out is a much more elegant...

What connector to use externally on the boat to recharge dinghy battery?

Okay! Great feedback so far. I think that a solar panel ON the dinghy would be pretty cool, I may work on that next. I have an extra charge controller so can just put that into my powerbox I made. Thanks for the links, I'll do some research and try to post once I've got something worth showing...

What connector to use externally on the boat to recharge dinghy battery?

I'm setting up a little EV style charging station just temporarily until I make other decisions. The idea is that my dinghy runs off a 12v battery and upon returning to the dock I top it off. Right now I use a 15-40A semi-smart charger but it's 120v residential automotive, obviously I'm not in...

Well said! Was trying to make time to write all that up by I'm currently alternating my alternators. Cheers Sna

    Please explain purchasing a slip

Have some aphorisms: A market without speculators would be an illiquid market. Those who think they are not speculating are simply unaware of the bets they are placing. Making no decision is also making a decision. Never oversell the sold, and never sell the unsellable.

    Please explain purchasing a slip

To the comments about DYC, actually we do NOT own the dock this is a MEMBERSHIP CLUB ONLY they made that very clear, we know we don't own anything except a "slot" in the "club" and that slot happens to coincide with a slip number and our membership allows us to live on our boat there and they...

    Please explain purchasing a slip

I read through this post back in March when we bought our trawler. Now posting with an update: we bought our slip membership here at Duwamish Yacht Club. There was nothing even close for a 40' long / 13' beam vessel like this, and yes that's taking into consideration the Big Duwamish Problem...

Help with removing raw water intake hoses.

Wow thanks for those tips Ted. I'm changing my approach to clamping now, your way makes so much sense.

Troubleshooting Perkins Fuel Shut off Solenoid

Thanks I'm working on this as well as other ghosts in the wires on my 85 Range4-200 twins and this is helpful! Just also learned that the engines (at least in my setup) are NOT entirely grounded (but they are part of bonding system or something like that) but stop solenoid requires ground path...

What does the minimum viable power distribution panel setup look like?

I also did find the original wiring diagram but I'm seeing exactly as mentioned earlier that many patches have been baid-aided on top of what's drawn. Looks neat though.

What does the minimum viable power distribution panel setup look like?

Thanks Bill, great tips. I am already regretting now that I didn't just pay the thousand bucks for a new cable initially, but I had ambitions for finding a way to run it shorter because it didn't make sense to me how they ran it. That's when I started testing my understanding and once I...

What does the minimum viable power distribution panel setup look like?

Yeah that all checks out, lots of green and black wires from each past decade stashed and stacked and half of them ending up adrift wires. I'm not using any of the breakers from the two panels that say AC on them. I guess now the metal bars going between all the DC breakers is the positive bus...

I don't have any house batteries yet but I will keep this in mind, thanks

What does the minimum viable power distribution panel setup look like?

I did also manage to finally get a good picture of the bottom row which was another 115V AC? Panel. The labels indicate that these breakers controlled the AC side of the inverter output? I guess? Going home now to read the manual again and make some crude sketches.

What does the minimum viable power distribution panel setup look like?

Sorry it's been a long day. The point of saying I found those 3 breakers is that they do LOOK LIKE main breakers but the DC control one was not wired up to anything. The other two I specifically am isolating because I'm not using those methods of power generation.

What does the minimum viable power distribution panel setup look like?

It's not obvious where the main breaker is for the 12v section. In the uppermost panel there were 3 breakers labeled a single pole 1x"DC control" and the other two had two poles each 2x"shore power" and a 2x"generator". But I don't have shore power or a generator so all I'm looking for is a very...

What does the minimum viable power distribution panel setup look like?

Consider it an R&D boat. No the batteries do not "need to" be in any location because I'm trying to learn how this thing works not just get it to work, I'm not even off the dock yet. This post is about a desire to understand a concept, in this case distribution and circuit breaking of 12v...

What does the minimum viable power distribution panel setup look like?

Preface: I made a couple of posts about the mess of wiring issues I found on this new boat, but I only had the energy to post in the intro thread I had made so it was hard to get precise feedback, thus it was rec'd to me to make narrower questions in the specific forum for that category. This is...

    Newbie here hi y'all

I know someone who does analog marine diesels all day long, and I'm sure she would love to get to know your 6-71 twins. I'm new around here so not going to drop name/number til I find out the etiquette on that but PM me and I'll shoot it to ya there for now. I haven't finished reading all the...

    Sundeck Trawler

hey y'all I am late to the party but just bought a sundeck and found this thread in the search query just to see who else has one and what they put up there! I am so curious because I have not seen any other boats like this in the marinas I've been in where I noticed a sundeck that has hand...

    Perkins 6.354 Alternator and harness

Hey, curious how this boat is doing now? We just picked up a very similar one and I am having SO MUCH FUN doing all the wiring over! :D I can tell that somebody "rebuilt" the wiring harness but they did it in such an odd way that I am always finding myself just sorta stuck staring at the mess...

    New Member in Seattle WA

Oh yeah we are not time-constrained at all so we felt the upsides far outweighed the silt. I think the slip values will go up significantly after the 8-foot Nov 2025 dredge so I am trying to figure out how to buy 3 or 4 of them! I love being in brackish without being behind the locks, I had no...
