How far have you been in your Coastal Cruiser?

We brought our new to us boat from Olympia, WA to Prince Rupert, BC. This trip was made at the end of February and if you know the local weather at that time of year everybody thought we were nuts. We had one of the Admiral's brothers on board and he was taking pictures as we rounded Cape...

    Our first adventure

Older Bronica with various viewfinders, backs, dark slides, lenses etc. Unfortunately, I haven't used it in years. Might just have to dig it out again. Thanks for the inspiration.

    renew my boat

You may get a few replies if you let us know what boat you own. Galley for a 28 footer or 40 footer? Make, model, year etc.

    Our first adventure

Absolutely. If you are in the Grenville channel don't miss the chance to anchor in Lowe's Inlet. There is a water fall right at the end of the channel. Anchor in the current (not too close or you will drag) and the boat will stay pointed at the falls with no swinging (my wife doesn't like...

    Our first adventure

Well done neighbour. I've also been to all those places and they are indeed beautiful. And you haven't seen anything yet. A slightly longer trip but plan on going to Anyox/Alice Arm some day. Or the white sand beaches to the south between Campania and the Estavan group. Definitely a must see...

    Flooring

Another thing to keep in mind is that carpet helps reduce the sound if your engines are under the "living area". Wood floors will be much louder.

    Frustrated with yacht brokers

This too is an interesting read. For Sale: Catamaran: Cautionary Tale for Wannabe Cruisers - Cruisers & Sailing Forums Not saying don't do it, just be aware of the possibility. She has created an interesting blog as referenced in the post above.

1986, 36 ft Mainship aft cabin

Sorry Art, I can't let you do it. Going from a Tolly to a Mainship is sacrilegious.

    Frustrated with yacht brokers

You signed on to Trawler Forum and Cruisers Forum in September, 2012. That's getting close to a year. You have made close to 500 posts and still don't appear to be any closer to your goal. Step back and take a look. As many have said you will not find your boat on the forums. From memory...

    Sundeck Models

I have a friend with a single 120 Lehman that he runs at 2,400 rpm at 3 gph. We have twin Hino 150 hp (no, it's not a Bayliner) that we run at 1,300 rpm and get the same fuel burn. So consider twins at least. It is nice to have the extra cabin space for your guests but be realistic about...

    Thoughts makes/models for a family

How about my Tollycraft 30 Sedan with 12' beam and twin 150 hp Hino diesels. 2.5 to 3 gph at 7 - 8 knots (1,300 rpm).

Hull modifications....See it to Believe it

Could the design, ugly as it is, be for beaching, sitting on sand bars or something of the sort?

    Newbie Questions ??

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Any boat, new or used requires a LOT of maintenance. If you get into boating be prepared to be constantly working on something.

    Travel Time

Good for you. It's not the dream that is important but how you get there. This, in a nutshell, is what I feel most of the cautionary comments are about. There is a concern that someone with little or no boating experience would contemplate (in the case of this thread) purchasing a large vessel...

Approaching fuel dock with twin screw boat

Here is how I was shown. It works. All this assumes you have counter rotating props which most twins have. First off, centre the wheel when close to the dock. Now let's consider the shift levers. This could be difficult to describe in writing. Look at the shifting as two C's, one backwards...

    I've Found It !!!!

Congratulations on your purchase. One thing to note, a friend had a converted life boat and his rolled like crazy. After he fitted outriggers and stabilizers life was good. Just something to keep in mind.

    U.S.Used Boat Purchases by Canucks

I have brought two in from Washington, one on a trailer and the other on its bottom. Have a title search done, get two bills of sale from the vendor, one for the boat and one for the trailer. Make sure the value is clearly written on the bill of sale. You will get charged HST at the border...

    Galvanic isolator DIY

LED indicator light av8r I am having trouble wrapping my head around this. How will this work on the ground wire? Power wire I can see. AC will still work with only the hot and neutral.

    Galvanic isolator DIY

Light for a monitor As the isolator is connected to the ground wire there will be no power so a light as a monitor is probably out. What you would need I think is to monitor the continuity of the circuit.
