How many of you also have a motorhome

While working it was too much to have both so we sold our fifth wheel a number of years back, but now retired we have a pair of 37s, boat and Class A. Canada and the US have so much to see and it’s not possible by boat.

Canada just closed border 16 Mar 20

I don't think this is all going to blow over in a couple of weeks but certainly hope it does.

14 day quarantine required in some ports

This will be tough for all the loopers if our American friends are excluded from Canadian travel, they will have to bypass the Trent Severn Waterway and stick to the Great Lakes. That would be a shame if they have never been through the TS before. Things are changing hourly so who knows what the...

    Spare anchor stowage

I figured most people tied them down but wasn't sure. Good point on the spare props, I have them in the same compartments in the original cardboard boxes but not tied down. This job is growing already.

    Spare anchor stowage

That is certainly a consideration to epoxy something in place as there is currently nothing in these compartments to tie to. Many thanks. We really don't have the room nor do I want to try to mount it on a rail or anywhere else at the bow. It will hopefully never get used but I wouldn't want to...

A Monk where angels might fear to tread

God bless him for trying to give it another life but not likely to happen. All joking aside, what a beautiful craft it must have been in it's day!

    Spare anchor stowage

Well due to a thread of my own and numerous others on anchors and anchoring, I am now the proud owner of a new Vulcan 20kg. I have a small Danforth the PO left me and now the 12kg Bruce I have just removed. I have 3 compartments in the aft cockpit with the generator taking up the middle one...

    Decline of a great forum

I don’t think this problem is unique to the Tolley forum only. I have posed a few issues on the Carver online forum and had not a single response and yet the Carver Owners forum on Facebook has plenty of action. It may be just an indication of what formats people relate to.

Boat that needs some love in Kemah Texas Area

My last boat I spent “Loving” it. After 6 years and an incredible amount of time and money we decided to sell for a bigger one. We lost money on the material added only with nothing for all my hours. I would never buy another project boat unless it is just cleaning and waxing needed or minor...

    Opinion on aluminum railing

I have looked at a few Great Harbors like Ray’s and they look fine after a number of years in use. Would not bother me so long as they are of adequate size and solidly fastened.

    RW pump for A/C units

It would appear that your little giant pump has the flow capacity for all three and unless there are other reasons you want to change out this pump, I would give it a try first. Do you run all 3 at the same time? The worst that can happen is one may go out on high temp.

    Onboard Battery Charger Recommendations

I have installed 2 ProNautic 1240P chargers on my last two boats with remote monitoring panel. They seem to work very well and don’t break the bank.

    Anti-foul in fresh water?

We are exclusively fresh water and although I have seen boats with hair growing 3 inches long it is primarily because the boats don't move all summer. Anyone that uses their boats usually gets, as others have said, just a slime layer. So why use antifouling, well the slime comes off with a...

    Wow! The greenest boaters ever!

I watched this couple I think about a year ago when they went to see the boat and bought it. It had water leaks all over and was completely gutted. Hope they travel safely, they sure have lots to learn.

Getting Boat From NYC Harbor to Cayuga Lake, NY

We found the NY state canal system and Oneida system to be very easy and efficient when we brought our boat to Ontario from Seneca Lake in 2018. The locks are only scary for the first couple then you get in a grove. For the first ones however I would try to do them on a day when there isn't too...

    What's a next-gen anchor?

I think Nexgen is a moving target. After traditional navy type anchors, Danforth was the predominant anchor type around the Great Lakes. Delta and Bruce type anchors were then the Nexgen, but that to has evolved and I just picked up my new Vulcan on Thursday. But tomorrow who knows, there will...

If You're Thinking Of Selling Now or Later

I bought a 14ft tin boat one time from a guy that had advertised it on a buy and sell. I purchased it and got a BOS from him but it had never been registered. The chain of ownership to the best of his knowledge was, a Canadian had bought it and never registered it as it was under 9.9hp, sold it...

Welcome to the forum. There is certainly lots of info and great minds to learn from here but be warned, don’t ask about anchors or whether twins or singles are best. Enjoy!!

    Fuel Burn on Our Mainship

I calculate that to be around 2 gallons per hour and that to me is not unreasonable considering your speed. At the end of the day it is what it is and you have to plan fuel stops accordingly.

Squeaking, creaking in a MS 400 at sea

Just went through the same thing with my new pickup. It can be very annoying but extremely difficult to find on a boat since 2 pieces of anything anywhere can be rubbing together under certain conditions. It will certainly take more than one set of eyes and ears and some persistence. Ear plugs...

    Wanted: Wagner helm pump

Generally these leak on the shaft, not sure about yours but if this is the case and a new seal did not solve the issue, then perhaps you damaged the seal while installing it or maybe the shaft is worn or damaged. If the latter, you can buy a speedy sleeve that slips on the shaft to give the seal...
