    Outer Reef Quality

Very nice looking boat. Your idea for a comparison test would be fantastic. It would be nice if there was an Truly objective website, thats not getting paid by the manufacturers, to review and compare brands!

    Outer Reef Quality

I am interested in getting information from those that have experience on any of the Outer Reef line of boats. I'm possibly interested in a 65MY and really don't know too much about them. Can anyone give me a comparison between the fit and finish and build quality of the OR to say a Nordhavn or...

    MAN i6

Hi all. I did read a thread from 2011 but wondering if maybe things have changed. I looking to run from SF to Hilo next year with a 58 Fleming. It has twin 800hp MAN i6's. For that range I need to run for an extended period of time at around 7knots. Is this possible without doing damage to...

US Couple in Caribbean feared dead

I have read on so many forums to "avoid the bad places." I am not sure this could have been avoided. I think any sort of early warning system may have helped...like an alarm system on board. Is there such a thing? Maybe an alarm if someone gets on the boat while you're sleeping? The other...

    Cost to take a trawler...

Thank you Peter. And everyones constructive replies. I'm really just looking for broad strokes here. I have done tons of research and come to a few basic conclusions. My motivation for the post is to verify some of those conclusions. With an endeavor of this magnitude too much research is...

    Cost to take a trawler...

around the world. I have been searching all over the internet for an answer to this question. I am trying to budget for this over the next few years and am really having trouble finding answers. I can do the math but am at a loss as to how much moorings and food are in different countries...

What Are Your Favorite Foods For Longterm Storage?

Have any of you ever used almond or oat milk? We exclusively drink almond milk and can get it in unrefridgerated cartons. We cook with it too. I'm sure it isn't the same but I prefer almond milk now.

    Semi-displacement Ocean Crossing

Pretty sure I have nothing to prove. The idea of crossing oceans has fascinated me my whole life. I have asked WHY several times. WHY would i want to cross oceans. Probably because thats one way I can get my boat to the other side. I wouldn't do it in a 6 foot boat or even a 20 foot boat...

    Semi-displacement Ocean Crossing

Not sure if these graphs worked but they show the fuel burn and range of the Fleming 65. At roughly 7.5 knots the range is 2500 miles. That's in a vacuum. Weather, currents and wind play a huge role. Bring the speed down to roughly 7 knots the range goes up to 3000 nm.

    Semi-displacement Ocean Crossing

The longest leg of the southern route across the Atlantic is roughly 2200 miles...Bermuda to the Azores. At displacement speed if feel the Flemings and Selene's have the range to do that. A big BUT is the weather window. Research is essential in learning trends, prevailing winds and currents...

    Semi-displacement Ocean Crossing

Thanks for all the replies. There is some info on the Flemings being able to make ocean crossings while at displacement speeds. Think Tony Fleming did a bunch of years back. I do realize many boats COULD do it. How safely is another story. Maybe I'm looking for something that doesn't exist yet.

    Semi-displacement Ocean Crossing

Hi everyone. Searched and found a few things but not exactly i guess. Are there any semi displacement trawler brands that can safely cross oceans? I understand the benefits of full displacement for long distance but can you cross oceans with a Fleming, Selene, etc by regulating speed? Can it...

    Resources on trans-oceanic cruising

Again, thank you all for the responses. At this point I'm getting all my ducks in a row. Been a boater my whole life. 47 now. Spent a lot of time fishing the NE canyons with my parents and now with my kids. I have loved trawlers and cruisers my whole life. At the point now where I can...

    Resources on trans-oceanic cruising

Thanks for the great replies. Ordered the book. There really is not much info about this stuff for power boats. Kind of frustrating. I am certainly looking at the sail info as well.

    Resources on trans-oceanic cruising

Hi everyone. Can you list for me websites, blogs, books, videos with info on crossing oceans and blue water cruising. Just starting to research a trans-Atlantic crossing...a few years from now. I am having some trouble finding resources. Thanks for your time!
