MD DNR “no recreational boating allowed”

They have been a bit more reasonable here in FL. We can still use our boats, but maintain 50' separation between other boats, and no more than 10 persons on board. No going on public beaches, but you are allowed to anchor 400' off the beach.

Squeaking, creaking in a MS 400 at sea

Same with ours. Been like that forvever, I kind of like it. Tells me she is doing her best to get us through,

    Marine trumpet horn replacement

I replaced my dual trumpet with this small air horn from Harbor Freight. Been 3 years now and still works great. Also put one on my 16' florida runabout, exposed to salt water and still working great. Probably 3x as loud as the trumpets and small, you can mount this anywhere...

2000 MainShip 390 flybridge spray shield

Let me know if you find one. My starboard side had been broken for years, marina did it and told me they could not find a replacement.

    Fly bridge soft core

We have one of the first 350's, hull #32, a 1997. No issues at all with soft decks, flybridge or otherwise. Our boat never was shipped, so the bridge was never detached, and has had a full enclosure since new. Been in our family since new. Sorry to hear about your issues, I hope it all...

    WI FI unlimited?

I got a $49 Boost mobile burner phone from Walmart this year just for data. 30gb tethered data for $60 a month, pay as you go. Can tether up to 4 devices at a time, no throttling, and I was getting 20mbs speeds. Had a tmobile hotspot for years, but it was slow and cost twice as much for...

    We bought a Trawler! OMG!

Enjoy! We have the same trawler, 1997 year. Been in the family since new with very few issues. You picked a good boat!

Happy to help with Erie Canal info

Hi Capt JJ Sorry to hear you are thinking of selling your C Dory, she is a sweet little pocket trawler. Met you a few years back in Fairport, we are canal rats, been doing trips for 17 years now out of Buffalo. Also worked at Kodak for 19 years, you worked with my step mom Sue. Best of...

    May we discuss start batteries?

We have never had any issues with electronics and starting even though they are all on the same bank. Even the inverter never blips during startup. Might be because the CAT starts with just a touch of the starter each and every time.

Selling my 30 ft luxury cruiser 2 purchase a Trawler , but which 1 ?

Yes, the original Mainship 34's 1978-1987 are very good on fuel as well as the 350/390 models 1997-2004. The latter probably outside your price range, the original 34 well within it. Expect close to 3mpg with either version.

    Aloha...

We are doing the eastern version of your dream, live on our Mainship on the Niagara River late May to mid September, then down to Florida where we have a condo. Boat stays on the hard in NY. We have been doing this for 4 years now and our Mainship ticks all the boxes you are looking at...

    May we discuss start batteries?

We have a simple set up like Catalina Jacks. 4 golf carts are both house and starting. Normally run them as a single bank but can split for fast charging with a 50 amp inverter/charger and 50 amp stand alone charger. Never a problem starting the single 3116 CAT. Generator has it's own group...

    Mainship 390

Actually, it did. Using real feedback from 350/390 owners, Mainship designed the 400 as a replacement for that series.

    Steaming again...

Did you actually block the outlet/inlet that leads to the water heater or did you loop them together? If you blocked, you may have restricted some coolant flow. Suggest you try a short piece of hose and loop them together if that was the case.

    Mainship 350 Mast

We had ours hinged. Local marina removed the mast, cut it, installed a lip on the top half and hinged the back with a clasp on the front. Very easy for one person to raise and lower.

Concerns From Survey and Sea Trial of 2006 MS34T

Running at less than 80% of max RPM's is the norm for most of us Mainship owners, single or twins. I've never heard of a Mainship owner having problems with their diesels from running too slow.

    Marine Stoves?

Agree! We have a 3 burner Princess that hasn't been used since we got a single induction cooktop. They are the best, heats instantly, and you can adjust the power all the way down to 100 watts for simmer. We still use the oven on the Princess, which also takes forever to heat up, but it...

Boat speed at idle 350, 390 & 34T single engine?

We are closer to 4kts, 1997 350 with single CAT 3116. Had a clueless DEC warden yelling at me one time for going too fast in a no wake zone at dead idle. In any case you wouldn't want to troll much at dead idle, as the engine will not get up to operating temp. I can run all day at 1000...

    Erie Canal conundrum

You will have no problem with dockage west of Lyons where the canal is currently closed. Most boats on the canal this time of year will be heading west, not east, and most of the bigger boats have to jump off at the Oswego canal due to height restrictions. Newark is a great port with free...

    Mainship 390 AC operation

Just run the generator, it won’t hurt it to run underway and they don’t use much fuel. Any other option will cost you $$$ and more things to maintain. We have run ours on occasion underway when it’s been really hot or cold.

    Fridge a/c or a/c-d/c

We replaced our marine fridge 15 years ago with an apartment size AC fridge. Been working fine ever since, runs off the inverter when we unplug from shore power.

    Mainship 390 AC operation
