Marinas in SE alaska to leave boat for summer

Petersburg is a great choice but you will still have to cope with cruise ships. Smaller cruise ships anchor outside Wrangle narrows and inside the narrows. The harbormaster is most accommodating. What I like about Petersburg is that it is centrally located. You are between Juneau to the north...

    Fake Documentation notice

Tom, well they got to my wife. It is a scam because they are using USCG similar emblems to make them appear official. No one bothers to review the small print which states you cannot receive a refund. They charge $75/year that requires $26/year on the USCG website. It's a shame worthless...

Florida or Sea of Cortez for the winter season

Spent 10 days in the Sea of Cortez three years ago. I will never return. Didn't feel safe at all. Boats would come up to us asking for oil, food, and fuel. We spoke little Spanish. We were very thankful to return to the USA. It is such a beautiful area. Such a shame the Mexican government...

    Cheer Men PT41 potential acquisition

tdoriot, I have a 1983 PT Cheer men 38' and I've owned several other boats to compare. I am impressed with the interior teak, maneuverability, and efficiency. I won't lie, I'd prefer a 37' Nordic Tug but I was looking at 3 times the price. Although the previous owner was not into keeping...

    Perkins Diesel

I have a 1983 Perkins 6.354 185 turbo with 3500 hours. At 7.5 knots and 1600 rpms I burn 2.5 gph a little less if going with the current. 38ft boat. very pleased. The majority of the time I ride the current and every once in a while I'll take the engine down to 1200rpm and run the engine at...

    Perkins 6.3544

Yes, I ran into the same issue reading manuals, online material, and asking friends that are excellent mechanics. Asked the local Napa owner that sells oil to all the local fisherman and he suggested Delo 15W40 and that is what I went with. The engine is only ran during the summer months. No...

What would you do about this mess?

Soak with penetrating oil for a day or so. Clean up the exposed threads with a wire brush. Try a pipe wrench to turn the nut carefully.

Tell us something about you that sounds FAKE

I was fishing the land cut south of Corpus Christi wade fishing and having tremendous success. It was just one of those days. The heat, humidity, and sun were just about unbearable in August. The land cut was formed when the inter coastal waterway was completed and people built houses on...

    Boat porn addict?

Boat porn yep I've sinned and fallen short. Youtube, Yachtworld, boats.com, Craigslist, Ebay, newspaper ads, you name it. Love walking the docks and boat yards looking at boats and meeting the people that own them. I peek so I know what I want when the time comes I retire. Got it pretty well...

    Southeast Alaska

AL, will be launching out of Prince Rupert. Ferry fees just too much. Would some day like to take the ferry to Hoonah and leave boat there but wifey loves to go to more destinations than SE Alaska. I do the majority of the maintenance work during the fall and winter so it all works out.

    Southeast Alaska

Richard and Al, I plan to be up there with a couple of friends. Spending most of the time between Hoonah, Gustavus, and Juneau. Hope to run into you both on the way as well as anyone else. If there is time, may visit Sitka for a couple of days. Leaving early June and returning 1st week in August.

    Sea of Cortez

Just returned from 10 marvelous days in the Sea of Cortez. Had several encounters with the police and the drug enforcement army. Could not have been more pleased. As soon as they found out we were from the U.S.A. they treated us very well. It was somewhat tedious getting a visa and boat...

    cruising and personal relationships

This has been an interesting read. I suppose you gotta do what works for you. For my wife and I, I tell her a year in advance what my plans are for the following summer cruise. She lets me know one way or the other whether she wants to go see the mother-in-law or spend time on the boat...

    Fishing from a trawler

It appears you have received many comments in support of fishing from a trawler. I have spent as many as 10 hours a day depending on the fish species I am fishing for and weather conditions fishing. Dipsy divers can be used instead of down riggers although you don't quite get the depth you...
