- 1981 34 Californian LRC
Manufacturer: Californian
Year, Model, Length: 1981 LRC 34
Price: $32,500
Location: Huntington Beach, CA
PM here for more information and photos
Unfortunately, a daughter in a private college and a wife with a major back issue necessitates the sale of our Californian.
1981 34 Californian LRC
Twin 3208 Caterpillar Diesels (210hp - normally aspirated)
Twin Disc 502 transmissions
Northern Lights M643 Generator
Galley Up arrangement with a stateroom (sleeps two) and three bunks in the V berth (3 bunks seems to be an uncommon layout option for Californians), Dinette also converts to a bed - Boat sleeps 6 adults or 8 if you have smaller children.
Two battery banks (4 Trojan 6V T-105 in each bank - three years old)
Electric water heater and stove/oven
Vacuflush head
Cold plate refrigeration system with Copeland compressor
PSS seals (2 years old)
Danforth style anchor with all chain rode
Ideal anchor windlass
Furuno Radar and fishfinder, Garmin GPS
ComNav autopilot (not functioning)
Extra Danforth stern anchor
Canvas bimini over flybridge and cockpit
All Mahogany interior complete with upper cabinets in the salon/galley.
The good: Jule Marshall designed a great family boat for the So Cal coast and the Channel Islands. The LRC is solidly built (no cored fiberglass here, all solid layup) with a complete walk-around and a generous flybridge. It runs great (both engines and generator) and is ready to cruise immediately. Runs at 9-10 knots at 1800 rpm burning about 3gph per engine. This means Catalina on less than 20 gallons of diesel (250-gallon capacity). Holds 75 gallons of water.
The work needed:
Teak needs to be varnished. It looks beautiful when done but when it started to go, I didn't keep up with it and it needs to be done again. Most of the varnish is gone leaving bare teak rails ready to be sanded/revarnished or merely oiled.
The refrigeration system needs to be recharged. It works fine but has a slow leak and needs recharging (R134) about every two years.
Several of the windows need to be resealed. While you can see evidence of this on the window trim, there is no damage to the interior paneling.
As you can see, some work is needed but the boat is fairly priced (well below market) for a hopefully quick sale. I am planning to list with a broker but thought I'd list it here for the fine people of Trawlerforum who have helped me so much over the years.
The boat is located in Huntington Harbour in Southern California (only a few miles from where it was built in Tustin, CA).
PM me with any questions or to make arrangements to see it.
Matt
