IKE is a former captains gig off of the aircraft carrier Eisenhower. She is a solid boat having been built for the navy and her custom refit has made her a comfortable cruiser with an intriguing look. She is a distinctive and classic design.
ACCOMMODATIONS
The pilot house has 2 Pompanette chairs, the one to starboard is for the helm. 2 bench seats are to aft and flank the companionway into the aft cabin. The aft cabin has a full bed that can be walked around. Drawers and one hanging locker are on all sides of the bed. Next to the companionway to port is a desk with shelves above and drawers below. To Starboard is the head with a new electric toilet and a full separate shower. There is a small flat screen television mounted to the bulwark opposite the bed.
Moving forward from the pilot house is a Galley to starboard and a dinette with benches to port. Past the next set of bulkheads is the forward cabin with 2 good sized over under bunks to port. Opposite the bunks, to starboard is a head (this one does not have a shower). Forward of the head is a large hanging locker with storage above. There are also drawers below the lower bunk.
CONSTRUCTION
The hull is solid fiberglass, as are the forward and aft cabins. The middle pilot house was added in the refit and it is marine plywood covered with fiberglass on oak frames. All interior cabinetry is marine plywood with varnished Mahogany trim.
The hull is in solid condition. IKE was group down and barrier coated and awlgripped in 2014 she is now a nice grey. The entire cabin and pilot house were awl gripped in 2009. A large swim platform was also added. Teak trim or drip edge was added to cabin. A storage box was added on top of the aft cabin to hold the propane and additional storage, it also serves as a nice seat. She is in well maintained condition.
ADDITIONAL
IKE has an interesting history having served with the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier the Dwight D. Eisenhower. Because she was built for the navy, she is solid and reliable. Her design is the same design that has been used for Capain's Gigs for many years so her lines are more classic. She is certainly a work boat in design and aesthetic, but recent cosmetic upgrades have softened her and her refit has made her quite comfortable for cruising with 2-4 people. She would be wonderful for trips up and down the ICW or other coastal cruising.
