Great cruiser…have owned her for 16 years now.,Happy cruising,Mike
Welcome aboard the TF. Like all her Cape Dory sisters, Carol L. is a beautifully proportioned, salty-looking cruiser. She appears right at home on her mooring in Allerton Harbor.
What engine do you have in your Ellis and what is its top speed.
When I was searching for a CD 28 years ago, I found one with the Volvo 200 hp diesel. But it would just get over the hump and top out in the low teens.
I then decided to go with the 275 hp gasser which would cruise nicely in the mid teens and top out near 20.
My Ellis had a Cummins 6BT5.9, 210 hp. Top speed was about 16 knots at WOT. Unfortunately she sank in a hurricane about 8 years ago. I let the insurance company buy her.
That is about what I would expect. The flybridge knocks a few knots off of top speed. The Yanmar 240, a common repower, can pick up 1-2 top end kts from the Volvo 200 hp.
