The Grand Pelican is a 1989 36 foot classic trawler built in 1989, powered by twinn Cummins 6BT engines with Twin Disc gears.
The generator is by Westerbeke, mod 8BTD. The fuel tanks are Aluminum and were recently installed. The boat is complete with an 8 foot dingy.
There is a water maker installed that can be made operational.
There is a complete oil analysis file, ever since we have owned the boat.
This style of boat has been made for a number of years. There have been a number of changes in engines and other changes for the better.
This boat has a redesigned hull that will perform better. The hull has a very deep entry that gives a great ride.
The bridge was updated with a better wind deflector, which has new plastic. The main cabin has two doors instead of one.
The aft cabin has a large berth updated with a new mattress This style of boat works well as a cruiser for two couples.
The small bunk at the port entrance door can be used as a berth for a youngster.The couch may also be used for sleeping.
For a few nights two couples plus a youngster, plus one more adult will work. Day cruising we have had 20 adults aboard. .
Starting in main cabin, the extra dish storage overhead, granite counter over work area, micro wave oven, gas stove, FM stereo with tape player,Bose speakers, refrigerator with new evaporator 12vdc refrigeration unit, special circuit to run around master switch but to ensure the battery charger is running. Two warning lights are installed at main console, one for main battery switch 'ON' and holding tank 3/4 full. Two binding posts for 12 vdc power and one 12dc power socket next to flat screen TV. A large tool storage area below couch with four trays to organize tools.
The AC unit has a replaceable filter for the system added, main AC unit duct relocated for better distribution, and main AC control panel located center of main cabin aft bulkhead.
Aft cabin, head, TechMa electric head with freshwater flush. Aft bed, thick very comfortable mattress, and areas around mufflers configured to allow for storage.
Engine compartment Cummins 6BT engines, oil sampling valves on engines, starb engine oil dipstick tube cut to reasonable length, main engine oil filter remoted to inside of engine, upgraded air filters, alternator/ circulation pump drives reconfigured. Both transmissions equipped with neutral safety switches. Port engine, secondary fuel filter remoted to inside of boat. Both starters and alternators have been rebuilt.The original shaft stuffing boxes were replaced with new dripless units. The old units are stored on board. Starboard engine draws from starboard tank, port from port,and generator from port tank. The fuel crossover line is in place, but remains closed until or if necessary. The old steel fuel tanks have been removed by sawing them apart in place, no hull cutting. New aluminum tanks were constructed as two separate tanks-total of four tanks and installed. New manometer site glasses were installed. An extra 12 dc light was put in above this area. A new soft generator sound shield was installed. A new improved battery charger was put in with indicator panel. The water maker remains, but has not been used recently. A power supply switch and water supply valve has been installed at the domestic water pump to improve serviceability. The two compartment blowers have been replaced with in line blowers. A bathroom style timer has been installed to allow blowers to run up to 4 hours, even with master switch off. A 12 vdc air compressor has been installed which primarily powers the air horn, but has a quick disconnect for optional uses. A bridge/ cover has been installed across the forward bilge area so that good stepping is available, a convenient way to move battery boxes from side to side. Storage for many spares for the engines ie, spare turbo, spare water pumps, spare alternator, and belts.
On deck, a stainless life rail extends a round the boat, varnished rail cap, anchor hoist with 150 feet BBB chain and 150 feet of nylon line, upper, local, and lower helm control, stainless 60 pound plow anchor, and spare Danforth anchor. Fresh water to wash anchor with hose at winch. Docking lights with control at both steering stations. New Lewmar plastic forward hatch, two parallel windshield wipers, one old style, and windshield washers. 50 amp forward and aft hook up with selector switch. There are two 25 foot, one 50 foot, a splitter to get power from two 30 amps all on the boat. A duplex 15 amp 120 vac out let near stairway to bridge and one outlet at upper steering station. Speakers are installed on bridge. Two 120vac quartz flood lights are installed on mast. The boom has been extended for easier launch of the small boat and sail type hand winch. A 12dc flood light is provided at boom point for night operations. A sail is provided and on board. Exhaust extensions for main engines are installed to keep the varnished transom a bit cleaner. A swim ladder i s provided on the swim platform.
The hull was painted with Awlgrip, which is easy to maintain and looks sharp.
