2020 Cruising, Where are you going?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Finnaly retired in March 19, plan to cruise for next year. For next summer in Martha's Vineyard then heading via ICW to Florida and Bahamas for winter.

We're leaving home in southwest Florida heading down to the Keys, then over to the Bahamas. Bimini, Berries, Spanish Wells, Eleuthera, Exumas.

Last year, we did the "Triangle Loop" aboard our Monk 36. This year, we start the Great Loop. Starting in Sylvan Beach, NY and ending the season in Portage, IN.

Alaska via the inside. We're planning to leave early but haven't decided exactly when. We have company later in the summer in the Anacortes area so we want to get back.

Normally take September off to go abroad. This time might be-bop around BC waters on our boat for a month. No real plans. After all it's September, not June, July, or August...

Lobster Boat Races

Heading to Maine this coming summer from Massachusetts to enjoy the lobster boat races. Both boats will cruise up to Portland and then on to MDI. NASCAR on the water with working lobster boats... an absolute blast! I had the pleasure to bring my original FTO up this past year. :speed boat::thumb:

We plan to depart Anacortes May 2 headed for Sitka. Looking forward to seeing our T.F. friends along the way, or in AK.

From Clayton, NY to Cape Cod to Maine to FL?

We just bought a 43' Mainship Pilot in Clayton, NY this past fall and decided to store it there for the winter. We plan to cruise from there in May and do the Western Erie Canal which we missed on our Great Loop. We'll turn around at the end and cruise the entire Erie Canal on the way home. When school gets out our 3 grandkids, ages 12,14,15, will join us in Waterford, NY for the trip home to the Cape. We'll watch the July 4th fireworks in Falmouth from the boat, then with the grandkids depart for the MTOA Rendezvous in Mystic, CT, with stops in Newport, Block, & Cuttyhunk. After the Rendezvous we may cruise eastern LI or head for Maine. We haven't decided yet whether to cruise south for the 10th time this fall or not. Hope to see you along the way.

Cape Cod

To anybody headed to the Cape and Islands. I am the AGLCA Harbor Host and the MTOA Port Captain for the area. While I do have cruising plans I would be happy to assist any members in any way I can. I also have a dock and mooring which may be available.

You shipping it from JAX?

Every year we make some plans but they usually fall apart. The Ft Pierce gathering is number one on our list, reservations are made and set in stone to get together with our TFs kindred spirit.

Then it’s where the wind will lead us.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Thanks Dave. I haven't seen your new boat yet. The last time we crossed paths was in Sitka, 2018. Bill (Alaska Prof) was there at the same time as I recall. Hoping for good weather and better salmon fishing in 2020!:thumb:

Leaving Clayton ny on or about July 1st thru the Trent severn to Georgian bay and the north channel to Lake Michigan. Storing the boat end of sept/early October in st Joseph’s Michigan. Picking up the loop in summer of 2021 time tbd based on condition of river floating or not.

Planning on a small trip North around June through to December

Simi, is inside the Great Barrier Reef navigable?

Summer

Biggest plans would be to go around the outside again travel up to the San Juans and Canadian 1000 islands. Maybe deception pass with a friend and connect with my best friend from elementary on the water. Spend at least two weeks on the hook one way or the other.

Lol, small. What do you do for big trips? Mars? Alpha Centauri?

You probably already all know my cruising plans, such as they are. Departing Annapolis in about a week or so, heading south along the ICW to Florida. Hoping to make it for the Ft. Pierce get together. Then at some point I'll start heading back up north again. I'd like to spend the meat and potatoes of summer doing the loop from Waterford to Champlain, then back west and south through the Rideau waterway, then back to Oneida Lake with stops at 1000 islands and sacketts harbor. Then Back south again. Rinse and repeat. I'm looking forward to it.

Besides tons of 3-4 day trips around the Salish Sea and southern BC, the two big trips I'm hoping to do this year include a return to Princess Louisa Inlet earlier in the season for a week or so, and potentially a longer trip to the Broughtons. These trips would include lots of stops in the Gulf Islands, Sunshine Coast, Desolation Sound, and who knows where else....

Let’s see. In February will be cruising from Vero Beach to Key West for a couple of weeks. In April we head to the Bahamas for a month then north to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the summer. Returning to Florida in September and having our boat, a Fleming 55, loaded on a ship in Port Everglades. From there she will be shipped to Victoria BC via the Panama Canal. For the next two years we will cruise the inside passage and the Alaska coast to Kodiak.

2020 is just around the corner. If you're cruising next year, you're probably have your plans already made. It could be a trip to Fort Pierce to the TF rendezvous, a couple of weeks on the St Johns river or the Great Loop. Always fun to hear about where people want to cruise and why.

I'm headed North April 1st. Plan to spend Memorial day on Martha's Vineyard, MA. Heading up the Rideau canal in July. The Richelieu river and Lake Champlain in August. Then back South crossing the Florida line by November 1st. That's the plan anyway.

So where are you going?

Ted
Let us know when you hit the Rideau we are based in Kingston and Use the Rideau many times during the summer, great trip, Don't plan to be in the system the middle 2 weeks, this is the construction holiday out of Quebec, and the Locks are very very busy

Sounds like you are having a great time in your F55.

A few questions for you, if you don't mind. If you don't care to share publicly, a private PM would be appreciated.

  • Who you are using to transport your boat, and the cost?
  • Will you have a complete shrink wrap on the boat done, and does the transport company provide this service?
  • Anything on the upper structure/flybridge that needs to be removed for transit?
  • No issues with the Jones Act because you are transiting from the US to Canada correct?

Thanks.

Sounds like a great adventure over the next few years!

Your boat name looks familiar. I think you may have passed me a couple of times in October on the AICW, maybe the Alligator river Pungo river canal.

Safe travels

Ted

I bought Ann-Elyse II in November 2017 and picked her up in Bellingham in Jan 2018 with the intention of taking her down the coast to Redwood City, CA but got side-tracked. I spent the summer of 2018 getting to know the boat and the San Juan and Gulf Islands and up to Desolation Sound, Squirrel Cove and back by way of Pender. She is now berthed up the Fraser River in Richmond, B.C.. 2019 I left the dock in May and returned in December. I took some friends to False Creek then Bedwell Cove and up The Indian Arm then back to False Creek. Then ran over to Port Graves in Howe Sound. Port Graves over to Montague Harbor and stayed there for a couple of weeks. Then went to Stuart Island then Sucia Isl., Point Roberts and ended my trip in Blaine. She was in Blaine and Bellingham getting some work done from Sept to Dec.. In 2020 I hope to do more cruising and less work on the boat. My goal for 2020 is to work my way up to the Broughton's.

Look forward to meeting you!
So I want to be to Ottawa by the 11th of July?
Looked on the internet, and they list the holiday from July 19th through August 2nd. Are you saying that the traffic starts building up the week before?
How bad will traffic be on the Ottawa river and the St. Lawrence from recreational boaters during that 2 week period?

You will be ahead of the Invasion being downtown Ottawa is very cool, you are right at Parliament Hill, and the 8 locks are quite fun taking you into The Ottawa River It will be very busy starting the weekend of the 11th through August Long weekend at the beginning of August, People are really friendly and lock staff are amazing they do all they can to accommodate all people trying to tie up. Many times we have had a raft which adds to the fun, and share power, you get to meet some really neet people, which we have done and made great friends with. The Addition of Le Boat is the only real challenge as the average Renter does not fully understand Boating and boating life, They normally keep going right to around 5:00 so We normally look for the first dock with power around 2:00pm and leave the next morning on the first Lock. a Heads up if you are planning on being I the system for more than 10 Locking days and or 10 Mooring days, it is cheaper to get a seasons pass, that is the break even. Link below
https://www.commandesparcs-parksorders.ca/ we will be getting out of the Rideau the weekend of the 11th so will probably see you on our way down we come out at Kingston Mills, and will then spend time in the Islands before doing the Mini Loop down to Montreal the first week of August, we are excited to go to Montebello very beautifull Marina Lodge that we have seen by land but not sea. enjoy your trip and let us know if you need anything or would like to join up for a night or two, I am sure your boat will be fine but watch for the weather coming across Lake Ontario, it is a nasty piece of water, we had friends come from Virginia two years ago in a Mainship 40, and had a very unpleasant crossing and they bailed into Main duck, The prevailing wind is from the South west and when you are in Oswego it looks calm and Tranquil but 5 miles out is a very different story Cheers Ed, Joanne and Gracie
