I wouldn't take it on a straight shot across the Gulf, that's over 550 Nautical miles in a with nowhere to hide. Taking a long cruise along the coastline, maybe, depending on the condition of the boat.
Thanks so much for your comments. Was thinking of a straight shot. About 10 years ago. helped a friend take his 48 De Fever make the trip. Had no problems. We left from Galveston and he made 6 to 8 knots with 125 Ford Lehman’s.
I was thinking of 8 knots. The boat holds 650 gallons.
Having had a boat with those Cats it seems you're not going to have enough fuel to make it in a straight shot at 8kts. You're looking at a 80hr trip coming out of N.O. if the weather and sea conditions are good. With twin 3208 (350hp)you looking 6-8 gallons/hr running at 8kts. I would love to have a reserve of 20% when I complete such a trip. Might look into carrying fuel bladders.
