I was looking at a Camano Troll that is for sale and the cockpit Laz hatch would not lift up. The owner or owner's broker was not on board. The hatch lifted a couple of inches before appearing to be jammed. I'm presuming that the hatch has a couple of gas shocks to hold it open. It didn't appear to have a latch to secure the hatch closed. Can any Camano owners describe how the hatch operates? I'm thinking that one of the gas shocks has come detached and may have jammed the hatch.

There should be a toggle that pulls up just to the right of the door as you enter the saloon at floor level right in the corner. Pulling the toggle up releases a mechanical “lock” that is located right under the pull up handle on the lazarette hatch.

The hatch is quite light and does not require shocks.

the latch that holds the hatch closed on our 97 is located under the floor, just behind the rear interior floor hatch. Real pita, but that's where it is.

My 2000 Camano also had the toggle switch to starboard as soon as you enter the salon (as Norwyn said).

I never locked mine though .
