Brass covers are easy to make. You can make round corners with a file or sander, it's easy to drill. You can polish it and coat it with a plastic spray and never polish again. I used Varathane. It yellows slightly in sunlight, but brass is already yellow, so it's not noticeable. That's how we handled all the brass plates in the Navy 50 years ago. Captain thought we were polishing brass everyday.
