Crane Failure with dinghy suspended....?

Speak to the crane manufacturer. Many of them have manual solutions to be used in the event of failure. If they don't sell one, they can at least advise you on what might work.

I finally tracked down the crane manufacturer. This was a challenge because the serial # plate is completely faded and cannot be read. The yard manager where I am hauled out thought it was a Nick Jackson and after sending them photos, they confirmed and sent back the manual which contains this nugget:

"There is a stainless loop on the nose below the
roller.
This is for using a block and tackle hookup in case of power
failure to your davit.
You should have a block and tackle advantage based on the load
of your tender aboard for this."


So now I at least know how the manufacturer felt a failure should be handled.
