I've been using this set up and test the water quality (smell, taste and ppm) prior to adding into our tank.

Although a different brand that is what I use. THe primary [first] with a 5u filter but I use a second one with the charcoal.

It will make a difference to the tank. Where I live and lived we have good water but over the years debris would get in as NO water system is perfect.

I also have one of those on a 2' hose that I used as a pre-filter when filling at locations that draw from a well or are otherwise suspect.
