Has anyone tried to install an electric or hydraulic drive as a wing engine with separate shaft and prop? Not to be confused with the typical hydraulic get-home on the main engine shaft.

Short answer yes for hydraulic setup. Seen several setups on Selenes and Northern Marines. Wesmar sells a system, with hydraulic powered from the genset.

I'd guess a small diesel would be similarly priced once you have the shaft arrangement figured out. It all comes down to space.

What vessel are you contemplating this for?
