My main bilge pump is triggered by an electronic style switch instead of the typical float style. It uses electric continuity and I've had nothing but problems with it. I've cleaned the points which may help for a month or so, after which it will run my pump until the batteries are dead. I replaced the switch, and have the same problem. I would love to put a float switch in but the switch is at the bottom of the verticle depression which is about 4" wide and 10" deep. The switch I have is strapped to the hose that dips to the bottom of the depression. Does anybody know of a float switch that may work in this situation?

I have been watching these new contactless sensor based switches. They are good enough to tell the difference between water and oil so they will not pump over a diesel tank leak only to embarrass you. They never come in contact with fluids which helps their longevity. While I have yet to invest in one they do intrigue me.

Try one of these. You just need to sucure the "bell" close to the bottom.
