trailer question re:- Finn8

Hi All, I have a Finn 8 in Lake Macquarie NSW that is currently moored but I would like to buy a trailer for.

bogranjac1 and all, just wondering what trailer you all find that works well.

Here you go mate, all the info and pics to order an excellent roadworthy, easily loaded trailer able to access any Council/Shire/Local Government boat ramp in Australia.
Believe me I have towed this rig across Australia twice, up to the Kimberleys from Perth numerous times and done the Sydney - Cairns twice also and NEVER encountered a boat ramp I couldn't use.
Made by a company called FMS Trailers in Brisbane.
Galvanised steel construction.
Trailer tare 860 Kg
Aggregate trailer mass (ATM 3600kg)
Finn 8 weighs 2000 kg dry - add fuel, any water, fridges/freezers, clothing, extra chain, anchors blah blah blah.
So you need every bit of that ATM and a good Cruiser.
( Landcruiser tray back is rated to tow 3500Kg)
My trailer was was custom built - note the back of the trailer with cutaway rollers and scalloped so i can drive this boat straight on the trailer. Just like the boys do with their runnabouts.
I load this boat alone dozens and dozens of times.
Cost $12500

None of the fairy generator or head stuff mate !!
Go outside for A.C.
And we eat our fish raw and cold.

My boat has 300w of solar
300 amp hour Gel battery
Small gas stove
Engel freezer, Dometic fridge
Porta potty for compliance

So if anyone is looking to sell, please let me know preferably one with the sailing rigging. Location not an issue but eventual home will be for the boat will be in Tasmania.

Your trailer looks like a perfect setup. Interesting to hear about your adventures.

I ended up buying a trailer that a guy had custom made for another boat. It wasn't perfect for the Finn8 but did quite an okay job. I mostly used it for slipping the boat to antifoul etc. Turns out it's more convenient to leave the boat in the water for me.

You are not wrong about the Finn8 being heavy when fully loaded!

I've had to part ways with my Finn8 recently. It's now down on the Hawkesbury River, just north of Sydney. The new owners are very happy with it so I'm glad to see it's found a good home.

My Finn 8 hasn't been in the water since I purchased it, the engine has a few problems mostly heat exchanger corrosion.I've now replaced/repaired the problem and she'll be in the water this summer.
I purchased the boat with a trailer in v.good condition so I don't know it's history, purchase/maker etc.
They are a great fun boat,I had a Finn 7 about ten years ago and have now updated to suit the family, it's better than a caravan as I love the water.

Hi Veejay, I have a Finn 7 in poor shape. It’s my recent personal purchase. Shipwright in Tasmania. I would absolutely love to have a chat about your experience with a Finn 7 if possible, please. I could contact you for a chat please.? I have some reservations regarding what appears to be a self draining cockpit that only drains into the boats bilges. It seems the cockpit Soul is slightly below the waterline. Sadly, this boat has been mutilated so I’m finding it hard to find out what is its correct original arrangement. I’m also desperately looking for plans of both thin sevens and Finn 8 to assist in my restoration. Thank you so much.

Bit late to the party, but did you find any useful documentation?
I've attached a couple of things that I've collected (probably from other posts on this forum).
The original Finnish boats were called Myrsky-Janne 700 and 800 (known outside Finland as Storm-Janne). There were larger and smaller versions at various times, as well (~9m one appears to have been called Myrsky-Jussy 920). There are loads of photos on the web under these names that might be of use to you.
There's also a manufacturers website which appears to be current, offering only the 700, a dinky little 560 and a fully open 470. Website url is myrskyjanneoy dot com
