Hi all - I am considering looking around for a Finn 8 - I'm over big dual engine fishing boats and have considered these Finns throughout the years. From what I can glean, some come with sail and some don't.
Does anyone have experience with these vessels, good or bad? cheers

Never heard of them but Welcome to the Forum!

There's a fellow here on TF with one who's an Aussie as well. He'll chime in shortly, I bet.

Welcome aboard :thumb:

There are a couple of Australian TF members that have one.

Hopefully they will see this and chime in.

Hi Toni,
My Finn8 has never had a sail/mast however I have met some previous owners who mentioned that the sail provided some stability Under power however the boat didn't sail particularly well to windward. At best square to the wind.
There's a very nice Finn 8 for sale on Gumtree and Boat sales.com
Regards Brett

where are they all?

I am rather interested in the Finn 8 as a motor (or motor-sail) transition boat -- getting a bit old and creaky now for the spartan features of my Contessa 32, but really unwilling to go full-on motor-yacht (as in 2-storey, all mod-cons, huge fuel consumption, high speeds etc).

But Finn 8's seem to be rare as hen's teeth. Where do you even find one? the Finnish builder no longer makes them (only smaller dayboat models) and I don't find any for sale anywhere. And why are old F/S listings disproportionately from Oz?

Mysterious. Kind of a cool little boat though, and might I think serve me well in my "golden years" (ha!).

Years ago the Finn 8 and a smaller model, either 6 or 7M, were marketed in Aust. Unsure if built here but at a guess, probably. Scandinavian design, like the dear old 26ft sailing Folkboat I once owned. There is one on my marina in northern Sydney, and bogranjac1 on TF has one I`ve been aboard. Neat utilitarian boats, not huge on creature comforts or space, a Seapiper predecessor. The split accommodation with a centre cockpit is disruptive to usual onboard living but the keen could get used to it, I expect one end is for sleeping, the other for living, cooking, food storage etc. Probably has a cult like following and surely runs "on the sniff of an oily rag".
I`m familiar with the Contessa 25 sailboat, English origins?,sturdy long keel boat, similar sailing properties to the Folkboat.

Hi Tomi, how did you go with your search for a Finn 8? I have one in Lake Macquarie NSW. Really good boat in my opinion.

If you are still chasing one, I am considering selling it. Cheers, Ammon
