I am interested in this boat and would like some seasoned thoughts from long time members with experience. Or if their are any owners of this type boat out there. I have tried to find this model on internet for sale with no luck. I feel in todays market it is overpriced. Plus from photos it has been sitting and or neglected.
I know my first concern should be the hull, decks and structural integrity of the boat, will it sink. LOL from there my next concern would be the fuel tanks and water tanks .

You are correct, the boat is a bad value. I see a tremendous amount of work needed. You would probably be better off to buy a $100,000 boat than this boat.

On the other hand if you are young and very mechanically inclined with no money, this might be a good project. When I was young and had no money I could easily have seen myself buy such a boat, move on to it and refurbish it. I find debt to be dangerous. Paying only cash as you go and combining living costs with such a project could turn this poor value boat into a winning situation.

It could also turn into a life altering liability so be honest with your self before you jump.

If you do proceed forward I would offer $15,000.

I know you are looking for info on the model. It is not a model I am familiar with but it looks like a typical Taiwan trawler.

If the boat(s) in RI are in similar condition to this one, you don’t have to spend any time thinking about bringing one home this year. I imagine it would take a year or more of work before it might be ready.

I have the skillsets for all, built a house at 25, was welder for 15 yrs, build engines, electronics and computer degree, certified by Dometic to work on HVAC. Have done some fiberglass on my current boat, but lacking in areas of more knowledge . My motto is " you break it I fix it " and if its already broke what more harm can I do LOL. But I do spend extra on parts due to not knowing a system and incorrect diagnosis.
But as said overpriced for the amount of time and money to get it in good SAFE cruising shape.

From what I can see from the pictures it looks to be floating, so that's a plus. But the boat appears to be very low end in terms of finish, lots of Formica and printed ply interior. If you are going to spend all this time working on a boat, why not pick something with some charm and character? I just don't think the juice is worth the squeeze on this one.

The clutter definitely doesn't help highlight a ship shape boat. The few pics of the windows don't seem to show any major leaks or rot. Bilge looks filthy which doesn't necessarily show pride of ownership so how does that transfer to staying up on maintenance. Holding tank appears to be disconnected. This youtuber No Regrets Lifestyle did part of the loop on one, he has a lot of videos on his channel so you'll have to search his channel for "Loop Princess". Probably in the 2021 timeframe and I think he has some project videos on the boat that may help you get a little more insight on that type of boat.

I think the main thing to remember about buying a project boat is that, first and foremost, you are buying a PROJECT. If what you want is a project, then a project boat could be just the thing. You will be enjoying the project for several years to come.

But if, first and foremost, what you want is a BOAT, then you would be better off saving your money until you can buy one that needs much less work. Then you will be able to start enjoying the boat much, much sooner.

@OP: IF you have another $100K above the purchase price, and the time and skills to restore this boat, then great. Know that you will likely always have more money invested in this boat than the boat will ever be worth.

I have an almost identical boat if the same vintage. It looks to me that the boat had a lot going for it. The “Senator” boats were well-made with good fiberglass layup, quality fittings (such as Perko, Wilcox-Crittenden, Raritan, etc), excellent woodwork, etc. The cabin sides are solid fiberglass, not cored with plywood, and the gel coat is robust and really lasts. I just had the rub rail and a few other dings repaired on mine, and the guys at the yard were amazed at how well the gel coat has stood up over nearly 40 years. Another plus of this boat is the very low hours Perkins. They made a solid, reliable diesel and parts are readily available. Also, from the photos I don’t see any evidence of the “leaky-teaky” disease, so looks like no major leaks to the cabin. The only difference between this boat and mine is that I have a galley-down layout with a dinette, and only one side door to the cabin. I prefer two doors near the helm, one port and one starboard, so in that sense the layout on the Senator is better. We love having the covered afterdeck for lounging. Personally, I think it’s an excellent choice especially with the very low hour Perkins and clean interior. Offer less than asking if you really want it and see what happens. You can always go up in your offer!
