Hello from Yorkshire, England

Having just joined the forum I thought it would be polite to introduce ourselves. We have been liveaboard boaters for 20 years here in the UK. We have a 60 foot Edwardian style motor vessel. It is powered by a 1970 Gardner Diesel engine. The boat was designed for us by a Naval Architect. It is steel and was built for us in Yorkshire. We took delivery of the bare shell and apart from the Spray foam insulation, and having the engine re-conditioned by a Gardner specialist, we have done absolutely everything else.

Where about in Yorkshire do you keep her and have you travelled far in her? I moved state side some 22 years ago but lived there for another 40.

We are currently moored in Goole, East Yorkshire. Handy for the Wide canal network, and also the tidal Yorkshire Ouse, Tidal Trent and the River Humber. Our inland stamping ground is York, Leeds, Nottingham. Obviously we have the Humber estuary on our doorstep. We haven't ventured beyond Spurn Head so far but plan to go further afield soon.

Looks very roomy. What is she - ~65 feet?

If you run the canals I assume she is shallow draft? What are your thoughts on running off shore, especially in the changeable Northern Europe climate?

Hello, welcome to TF, you have a beautiful boat and at the same time your home. Have you traveled by boat elsewhere in Europe? It is not permissible to live a board in Finland on the boat here, unfortunately, in England apparently quite popular...

Cygnus is 60 x 14 x 4 and airdraft of 10'. The inland canal and River area that we cover is designed for large craft. The North Sea is on our doorstep. Yes it can be very changeable, but also we can have some nice spells of settled weather.

There is a forum called Thunderboat. It is mainly concerned with the UK inland waterways. The reason I mention this is because there is a guy who regularly posts on there from Finland. I believe he has a Narrowboat based over here on the canal system.

It is indeed a jewel. I think I may have seen your boat SE of Leeds a few years back as I walked along the canal. I stood there admiring it for awhile hoping someone would pop up to talk to but no one appeared to be aboard at the time. Small world.

It was probably us. We do venture inland to Leeds now and again. We usually Moor in Castleford, Woodlesford and outside the Jousting Arena at the Leeds Armouries. If we were aboard we can usually be seen in the deck saloon.

OMG you have done some wonderful work. I can imagine taking this boat on the European canal system and exploring for years. Good job sir!

Love the boat and the Gardner, just the unique sound of the starter is enough to make an engineer drool.
I owned some of the truck 6's 150's and 180's, the last I had was the straight eight 240.
