Holding tank

to get the bolt holding my vent I would have to cut an interior access hole

my current holding tank vent it actually a diesel tank vent (like this one)

what if I rip off the cover? or drill a large hole through it? has anyone done that? It would save removing it from the inside and reconnecting the hose.
